They have EXPLICITLY said they wanted to get rid of the crafting bench.
Have they? Wow, it seems ssf experience won't get any better then.
I also don't trade and ssf is just slamming orbs and praying, the only viable upgrade source is grinding gold and gambling with Alva.
It's not Grinding Gear Games anymore, it's Grinding Gold for Gambling.
Yes, unfortunately they have. Hopefully they will change their minds and put in something equivalent. SSF in this game is a very hard road. Trust a guy who never trades and always plays SSF on that.
They really-really said that? Well that's just awful then!
I was hoping that the crafting bench is just delayed, but this is most frustrating.. I mean, I even bought that MTX with cool blacksmith dudes in PoE1 to have it later in PoE2 hideout. What a shame

yes, they said they were never quite happy about it and they experimented with it. runes are the replacement. runes are boring and suck, but thats how it is now.

Indeed. And next to removing Aleteration orbs, one of the biggest.
I'm surprised I haven't seen many people talk about the removal of Alts. There's been more discourse on the removal of Scours, which also ties into this issue. Both orbs being absent makes crafting feel WAY more out of our control. A bad craft isn't really punishment, unless we explicitly messed up the crafting process itself. It's just a bad stroke of luck, especially when we have so few ways to control the crafting process itself (really just Essences and Omens, and the latter are inaccessible to most players).
The lack of scours and alts makes mapping much more of a pain, too. In PoE1, you can roll off a rippy mod during the early crafting process by using an alt. If you get one while you're juicing the map, so be it. You can take a risk with a Chaos to roll the rippiest mods off, or you can Scour to start over. That's not the case in PoE2. The result? We end up with entire tabs full of Ele Pen + No Quant/Rarity maps that aren't even worth Vaaling, which will never sell anyway. It feels awful.

I agree that we desperately need Alts. Even if they'll work like chaos orbs - rerolling one random modifier on magic item. But they also need to be common drop.

my group already moved on to other games. I am just seeing how the game progresses but once we understood this game is NOT anything like D2 though and a one button/1 hit end boss's and everyone is a wizard despite class, shows the game is pretty casual and not something to play past a week. Its a real pity.

POE1 is not like that. There are a lot of differences in the classes and skills. If POE1 launched another league, POE2 player base would bottom out. Perhaps that is why they are not launching it yet.

I have this feeling too. I am one person that will switch back to POE1 for a month or so as so much in 2 needs work. Having that choice is nice though.

i dont mind not having the crafting bench as much since they added rune replacing
it could be good as a replacement since it doesnt "eat" normal currency the cost to temporarly fix your gear would be even lower than in poe 1
a few more rune types and maybe a rune slot on amulet and ring could make the system pretty good
