The "one single try" mentality is the one and only thing making me consider dropping the game.

After more than 400h of PoE2 and atleast another thousand in PoE1 the one thing that has me considering dropping it all is the "one try" ruthless design being baseline in PoE2.

Nobody thinks this makes the game more enjoyable or challenging, as you could already go HC if this was the type of bs you were looking for. There's no challenge in just taking a steaming dump on the players time arbitrarily for no reason.

For a game that has so many upgrades and significant strides in gameplay quality over it's predecessor, this is the one and only thing that overshadows all of that to make the game just feel like pure shit.

There's literally no reason at all for this to even be a thing, there's no enjoyment to be found in "Oh my, the boss went damage immune instead of phasing and then just one shotted me instead, better go farm for 2 days for another try to get f'ed".

1. Badly designed boss battles with just a slew of oneshot mechanics RNG thrown at you with 0 telegraphing, High costs of entry to even fkn TRY, and outdated bs XP penalties from the 90's for dying.

I completely agree.

Elden Ring is a good game because you could learn a fight. You rarely die to One Shots, you often just have no health pot because you missed too many dodges.

The campaign was great because Boss Fights were learnable. They took 2-4min and when i failed, i tespawned and just did it again. It was fun to learn the fights.

In the endgame, POE2 turned into a weird, terrible game that tries to permanently punish you. The One Death mechanic does not work on Bosses because well - it is hard to reach the boss.

WHAT I WANT:

Hard boss fights that last 3-5 minutes without One Shots. I should die because i run out of health pots.

WHAT WE HAVE:

A weird One Shot Simulator where Bosses die within 5 Seconds or Bosses Oneshot you.

WHAT IS THE CONSEQUENCE:

People completely overprepare until they know they oneshot the bosses. In current state, you create characters that kill the boss in 2sec. You need to look videos instead of just learning the fight.
The alternative is what 95% of people do: just buy carries or sell your boss invitation...

SOLUTION:

- Unlimited uber boss atempts. Let people smash their heads into bosses until they learn the mechanics. Its fun and it was made my first playthrough of campaign great.
-Double our health pools in endgame to lower the number of One Shots. Reduce some of the regen mechanics like 3k/s ES Recharge to make our health pots matter.
- Increase boss health by 50000% or what so ever. A bad build should take 4-5 min, a very good boss build 2min and a 100div build 1 minute. Current balance is difficult to project because of so many builds killing uber T4 bosses in 2 sec.

In general: the power scaling in endgame is out of control. The real end bosses are mostly rares with 7 crazy affixes or maps with crazy modifiers. This is more like POE Patch 4.0 and not POE2 you promised us.

I think it makes the game better, more challenging and enjoyable. It is in no way hardcore, last time I checked they weren't deleting your character for dying.

What one shot mechanics do bosses have that are not telegraphed? Unless your defenses just suck any of their big attacks are very telegraphed.

XP loss exists for a reason, and is a GOOD thing. This is not D4 where level 100 is where the endgame starts, in POE level 100 is the END.

death penalties should be more severe
"buff grenades"

- Buff Grenades (Buff-Grenades)

They don't delete your character, they migrate it to standard league.

Even well-telegraphed one-shots are meaningless when visual clarity is poor. Moreover, GGG stated multiple times in interviews that one of PoE2's design goals was to move away from one-shot mechanics through redesigned combat.

What exactly is the reason for XP loss? To slow down player progression? Neither game works the way you describe - level 100 isn't the end in PoE, and endgame doesn't start at 100 in D4.

If you simply prefer the current system, that's fine - just say that instead of making up inaccurate comparisons to justify it.

I have more than 640 hours and I completely agree with you. It's so frustrating all efforts to only one try. For example, it takes me 40-50 min make 4th ascendancy in sanctum just to die in final boss because he slowed you down in one mechanic. I think poe 2 could be the best game ever, but for me, the "one try" thing in everything is becaming to ruin my game experience... If someone wants more challenge, go ruthless, but let people enjoy the game, because sometimes I come after work to relax, not to be more frustrated... It's my thought. I really hope ggg implements ruthless and let casual people have more fun. :)

Yeah, until the One Portal mechanic being re-evaluated... many players won't comeback (most by comments on Steam, Reddit and this very forum).

When they release the 0.2.0 I will try, but already expecting the one portal to cause the same fatigue it is now.

If it is the philosophy GGG wants to instill in PoE 2, well... there is others games to try on, isn't like 10 years ago when good entertaing games were scarce.

Well it would be nice if "remove penalties OR ELSE" crowd stopped comparing SC to HC just because they can't brute force their way through content.

I could not agree more. Of course some like the current mechhanics, but I can't understand, why we can't play the game the way we want to. They limit their player base and thus their revenue for no apparent reason. I just hope, GGG wanted to test the waters for this kind of Souls-Like game and will revert to a more normal game.

Ironically, the only players currently capable of beating all endgame content are brute forcing it.
