POE2 Cosmetics Disappointingly Expensive

I was taken aback when my brother sent me this text, along with a screenshot of a cosmetic armor set in POE2:

-------------------------------------------------------------

"
I thought that was cool but I'm not spending $84. 💀

-------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing I did was check the in-game store because the price point seemed outrageous. Sure enough, there is an armor set available for $84.00. Yikes! I thought I would share this pricing comparison to another ARPG my brother and I play together:

OTHER WELL-KNOWN ARPG
• 500 Platinum - $4.99
• 1,000 Platinum - $9.99
• 5,700 Platinum - $49.99
• 11,500 Platinum - $99.99
• 18,500 Platinum - $149.99

At the lowest price tier, $1.00 is equivalent to 100 Platinum. At the highest price tier, $1.00 is equivalent to 123 Platinum. But what can you buy with that Platinum?

• Druid Armor Pack (2 Armor Sets) - 1,000 Platinum ($10.00)
• Tusked Lord Armor Pack (1 Armor Set, 1 Mount Set, 1 Accessory) - 2,800 Platinum ($28.00)
• Midwinter Mourner (1 Armor Set) - 2,200 Platinum ($22.00)
• Frost Lord (1 Armor Set) - 2,800 Platinum ($28.00)

This is just an example. There are items priced below <1,000 Platinum, including armor sets. There are not, however, any items priced above >2,800 Platinum.

-------------------------------------------------------------

PATH OF EXILE 2
• 50 Points - $5.00
• 100 Points - $10.00
• 200 Points - $20.00

At any price tier, $1.00 is equivalent to 10 Points. There is no incentive to purchase a larger amount of Points, other than convenience. But what can you buy with those Points?

• Nethermancer Armour Pack (1 Armor Set) - 450 Points ($45.00)
• Plated Dovecaller Wings (1 Accessory) - 350 Points ($35.00)
• Despair Armour Pack (1 Armor Set) - 840 Points ($84.00)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Some might say that I am comparing apples to oranges, as POE2 is a freemium model, but I would argue this:

OTHER WELL-KNOWN ARPG
• Standard Edition ($29.99)
• Standard Edition + Expansion ($45.49)

PATH OF EXILE 2
• Early Access ($30.00)

-------------------------------------------------------------

As a consumer who has purchased cosmetic items in a game before, I would think I am in the target demographic, but at these price points, I don't think I would ever purchase a cosmetic in POE2.

It's just my honest feedback as a consumer. The sticker shock was enough that I thought my brother must have miscalculated the points-to-dollar cost.

Why so rude?

You know he is kinda right, the cosmetics and MTX in POE are very expensive. We are just used to it from years of pouring money into POE1 that we do not notice, but i can imagine for a newcomer the prices might be overwhelming.

Basically never buy just points. The supporter packs come with a bunch of cosmetics plus the full value of points. Wait for one you like then you are double dipping on the points.
This, noone that isnt swimming in money buys just points, you buy a nice pack, get some cool cosmetics that will never go into the general store, and then with the "extra" points you get whatever you want.

This is true, but the pricing definitely seems far out. I can buy a brand new release of a new video game for <$60.00. A new Stephen King novel in hardcover edition would run me around <$10.00. A graphic novel anywhere between $15.00-$30.00.
I agree that they're super expensive. I doubt it'll ever change though, not that I condone fatalism.

I just don't undestand why they think those price tags are a good idea?

Wouldn't they make more sales if the price tags were more appropriate for what they're selling?

Not meant to be rude, my apologies.

I believe that most people spend 50-70$ on a game they spend 40 hours in.

I believe in giving GGG a certain amount of money for every 100 hours.

I am in no position to tell someone who to handle their finances but not showing support to a companies product you spend a vast majority of your gaming session on.. that is what I call a POS.

The prices can be high, I agree, especially for the fused set items.. but those come from gamble boxes and to make those cheap when people gamble hundreds if not thousands of dollars on would be a massive disrespect to them and GGG isn't trying to disrespect the people who spend that kind of money on their game. These are the people they want to keep.

I agree it is expensive.. but it is worth it. The tiered supporter packs are always worth it in my opinion.. unless they suck.. but they've gotten a lot better at giving a lot more things.
