Why do we punish children? (XP death penalty)
We punish them to get them to stop doing what they were doing.
In this case, apparently the devs want players to stop doing endgame content they are not 100% certain of clearing. This is bad game design for a lot of reasons. Only doing content you know you can clear gets boring. Most players want to feel challenged. They like taking on content they can fail, because it makes the successes feel so much better. Death is already a penalty - you lost all of the time it took for your attempt. Why add more on top of that? It doesn't make the game any more challenging, it just adds grind and resentment. It shows you don't respect players time. Nothing makes players quit a time faster than not feeling respected. No, it makes you try to play the game more seriously, and gives weight to death. XP penalty is a symptom people are getting angry at because the endgame is extremely imbalanced at the moment. XP penalty is good.

+1
Death punishment is too high. You lose your waystone, time invested and 10% XP. I don't see the downside on giving a few retries/portals or if you want to keep it as 1 try at least get rid of the XP penalty. |

I think many players are trying to "go fast" and that has them pushing content that their character is not ready for yet. In your original post here you stated:
"Most players want to feel challenged. They like taking on content they can fail, because it makes the successes feel so much better." Why is there a dissociation with this statement and in-game death for you? Wouldn't the challenge be to not die, and once your character can complete higher tier maps and bosses the success feel great in the way you are describing? It took me a few days to get my character's gear and level up to where I could take on T15s but now I haven't died in dozens of maps, that is part of the challenge. Death penalty is just stupid
as i said many times on the forums make two servers one for the die hards like now and one casual server without the death penalty and maps gone like the game but cant handle the penalty and i think 80/90% of the players |

The game has a ladder. You can't be allowed to level faster than people who are actually playing well by throwing a mountain of your own corpses at the problem.

" OP openly admitting to beating kids.... and here i thought i've seen everything on here. grats OP |

Disclaimer: I am new to the game and have a lot of probably stupid questions. If you're annoyed by this, please just skip this :)
While losing xp - can I lose level through this? Thank you in advance! |

" Then maybe people who are "playing well" should "git gud" if players throwing mountains of corpses at the game are winning. Also: ladders only matter to a handful of players on a server. They should not be a consideration for game design. [Edit] - and if your post was in jest, I'm sorry. It's getting harder to tell the difference sometimes...
