Orb of Reset/Wizard
" If you want to completely redo a character, start from level 1 and have fun leveling. You have 2 options: Farm orbs, start over. The game's not forcing you to farm, the game is forcing you to make meaningful decisions. TehHammer is not a crime!

" Oh well, that's just a brilliant idea: Someone has just spend over 100 hours of playing PoE and found himself stuck at merciless difficulty, because his build isn't viable, so if he want to go on, he has to farm all the orbs to get further, or just delete his character. Because the game want you to make meaningfull desicions, and experimenting isn't allowed, or you will have to farm 20 hours just to reset it, that's just great... I really like the passive skill tree, but if you need to farm for 20 hours to get something else, the fun of experimenting is gone. So a full reset wouldn't make the game less fun, it just depends on how expensive you make it. Last edited by Eddyon#6035 on Jun 25, 2012, 2:55:06 PM

" Experimenting is totally allowed, you just have to not suck at it. I've made 2 totally off the beaten path builds that work. I did this by researching how game mechanics work, how support gems interact with one another and skill gems, and what high level gear looks like stat-wise. In both cases there were minor tweaks here and there that I had to make, each character had to refund maybe 6 points and reallocate them elsewhere. Having free/easy resets like what D3 has is what makes me never want to play that game again. What's the point of leveling up in D3? You can't do anything meaningful until you're at the level cap, and once you're there the only "choics" you have to make are which piece of gear you're going to buy off the auction house. This game has meaningful decisions along the entire character building process. I'll take that any day over the kindergarten mickey mouse crap you're trying to change the game into. TehHammer is not a crime!

This has been beaten to death. The devs have not announced or even barely hinted at any intention of ever allowing any sort of full respec.
Full respecs allow players to practically change a character into a completely different character. This is not GGG's vision for character creation. If you find you've made a few mistakes, you can fix them with respec points and Orbs of Regret, which really aren't very rare (you get 2 respec points per act from quests, and the orbs are available from vendors and are commonly traded in the beta). If you don't want to start over, you can spend the time and effort to find enough orbs. This system is a compromise from GGG's original position of absolutely no respecs at all. It's a fair compromise. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

" Oh well thank you for the compliment, so trying something new out, something that you don't know at first if it's going to work is dumb. Well, have a good day sir, I don't say this often, but I seriously hope that I wil never, ever, meet you ingame. There is still something called manners you know. " Thank you for the explanation, haven't actually looked at it this way, with all the comments I get that say that I just have to farm all day long. |

" I didn't say that having an option to fully reset your skill tree would be easy, I just shared my thoughts with you. |

Personally, I have zero issue with the way respec is handled right now. I love the fact that quick and spontaneous decision making can have a long term outcome and requires a bit more thought.
However, coming from a development and hosting background, I can also see where this will become an issue once PoE is out of beta. Right now, we are a small community. We may not be extremely small, but we are small in the larger picture of things. Once the game is live and open to all, many who are not familiar with the genre, and/or simply will not take the time to research mechanics (being that this sort of tree is new to the genre anyway), habits, and advice, will come flooding in. That is not to say that GGG should cater to those who are unwilling, but rather that once the game is live, it will not be an issue on such a small scale, and may require a bit more tending too. I for one enjoy farming, as well as the creation of new characters. The two characters I have now make around 10 or so that I have made thus far. Each creation due to being unhappy with long term results of my choices, or simply curiosity. Unfortunately, this is not a common view amongst gamers these days. Most have been spoiled elsewhere, and whether we like it or not, they will expect some catering after their migration. Change or no, I and many others are content with the current resolution. But I can promise we will soon be outnumbered. And some form of option, free or not, may be much more viable and less hassle than the soon to come spam on the matter. But I will say this: " If this is your general view on things changing from how they are now---I'd recommend steering clear of both global and the forum once we are out of beta. It will only get worse from here. The last statement is not meant to be an insult, but rather just an observation from reading responses on various forum posts by various members. Many will find themselves highly irritated once fresh meat starts to wander in. ...narf Last edited by SqueakyToyOfTerror#0940 on Jun 25, 2012, 7:04:58 PM

yep. I think most people will now by now what happens when a lot of people whine and the devs are actually listening to it and changing game play based on those whining.. A dumbed down version of a good game (not mentioning names here, but take a wild guess)...
If you need more than 30 respect points to fix your character, that also means you spend 30 points (thus levels) in it. If during that time you did not once got a feeling that the build was not going to work, than perhaps this game is not for you and you should try out other games that don't have this "limitation"... next to that, you'll get 12 respect points for free, will find around 4-6 orbs yourself during normal gameplay and will be able to BUY them from vendors, lets say another 6 there. That already is 20 respect points almost effortlessly. Really, this is a non-issue. Don't Touch my Sweep please GGG!

Free respec for low level chars only would prevent a wave of "I bwoke my chawactew" posts once the beta is opened. Less people complaining will be better PR.

" You won't get to level 70 very soon either... Plan your build out carefully, and start respecing or saving skill points the moment you sense you've gone in the wrong direction. |
