PoE 2 Is For Tourists
The main conclusion is really - "what do I get from spending XX hours in this game?".
I'm in Act2 and I just don't find any reward (at all) from grinding further. |

" I didn't say I don't know how to stop it. For the 100th time THE GAME IS NOT DIFFICULT It pushes you to constantly kite backwards and artificially extends the already oversized maps. It's just tedious. Positioning is basically just never going far enough forward that anything gets behind you. If there's an event that spawns stuff behind you, you die. Just check global chat and you will see people raging about "beetles" which is an early game event where a bunch of mobs spawn on you/close to you before you can react. Just because there is a solution which requires literal hours of tedium doesn't mean it's good design or "challenging" You CAN cut the grass with scissors. Doesn't mean it's a good idea.
" I know they're different. That's not the point. The point is that both of them together are enjoyed by maybe 5-10% of the player base? They built a game that basically feels like it caters to the 5% instead of the overwhelming majority. Make the game difficult and/or complicated by all means, but don't dumb it down, make it painfully slow to even so much as walk across a map, and then tell me it's "meaningfully difficult" when it's actually substantially dumbed down and the boss fights are easy and the difficult part is finding the time to win with a crafting system that is pure RNG.
" This I 100% agree with this. I have a Blood Mage so far and nothing seems to work. Living Bomb has been the best skill to use so far. It is fast to cast, i paired it with the ignite gem and the one that allows me an extra version but also reduces effect duration so it explodes FAST. I have seen some fireball builds that use frost wall to proc the explosion but it still felt cumbersome and unintuitive. My brother has been playing grenade Merc and it seems to be just SO MUCH more powerful it is not funny, another friend has a cold Sorc that also has just come into its own with Frost Wall/Frost Bolt. Have tried a few specs on Withc and nothing seems to stick properly. The dodge roll is really clunky to use and has a massive delay to recover. Monsters are significantly faster than the player. Some adjustments to skills are definatly needed to make this work properly. |

To clarify, what I mean by "tourists" are not the HC/SSF/Ruthless players who are genuinely amused by a plodding, punishing, boring game.
I am talking about marketing it as some kind of "Dark Souls ARPG" to people who don't play POE at all. They are the tourists that will complete the campaign once, leave a positive steam review, and then never even think of playing the game again. The game is for them. Even ruthless players etc... will quickly get bored of this game as the crafting system has ensure that everything is RNG and the endgame is basically just an endless gold farm with no ways to be clever or creative. It's a shame. They could have made PoE with great visuals and great bosses and a better new player experience, but instead they made a game that really seems driven by dev ego over everything and forcing all the stuff that 90% of the players of PoE hate.
"I don't because I use my spells and make through the correct escape path to get out of it. Looks like the game is difficult to you after all. |

" it only gets worse | |
" How would that make the game difficult? I literally stated the answer in the part you quoted... You just go really slow and never let anything behind you and you won't die. You'll wish you were dead, but you won't die. Game is easy, just slow and boring with almost zero payoff. Boss fights are cool I guess. Easy, but they look cool.
I have over 3k hours in POE and am loving POE2.
It is a different game, but I would say an evolution and huge step forward for ARPGs. |

if this is the best you guys can come up with after such a long development phase, i srsly dont know what you were thinking. this game lacks everything which made poe1 great. this should have been an evolution of part one. but now it makes everyting unnecessary tideous and unrewarding. YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!
