POE2 keeps freezing my computer
I was having similar Windows 11 problems with the game just crashing out with no error message after n minutes. Sometimes then repeatedly closing itself on game restart after the GGG intro, then working again.
Setting processor affinity to P-cores only did mitigate the issue. I was beginning to suspect processor failures after the recent Intel fiasco, and had installed firmware updates, no luck. My ludicrious fix: 1) change no hardware, 2) install Linux. Running flawlessly for me on Linux Mint via Steam and Proton. Same system that was dying repeatedly. No hardware changes. Did have lag after 35-40 minutes unless using controller, but turns out is a Steam input bug with an equally known workaround. |

" I was having all the same issues after doing a fresh install of windows a few days ago. I kept getting freezing to whole PC, temp. solution was to turn off affinity to a couple cores but was then causing lag and slow downs. I found an older version of windows 23H2 from November and I installed that fresh instead and it fixed the issue for me. I know some Linux users and others have said they are having the same issue, but after 5 days straight of non stop freezing, I am now able to play perfectly fine, even while watching video on 2nd screen, which previously would instantly freeze when POE 2 loaded any loading screen. Now no issues. |

My PC still randomly locks up when loading into acts, maps, etc. beyond the login loading of the game. It is random and is a full freeze that requires a hard reset. Here is what I have done to try and narrow it down. Maybe this will be helpful to others.
First I reduced all the nVidia settings to "Ultra performance". My resolution is still 3440 x 1440 though. The freezing is signficantly less, but the game just doesn't look as aesthetically pleasing. The game does still fully lock up my PC when loading randomly into a map. Therefore, I decided to try something different. I switched from DirectX 12 to Vulkan in ultra performance mode. I haven't had any issues for a couple days now. I decided to then increase the graphics back to defaults. So far, the game has not locked up on me. However, it can get laggy when too much is happening so I am still tweaking with what works with my system. I am curious if others have tried switching from DirectX 12 to Vulkan and have noticed improvements? Game goes mental when i try alt tab out xD
Game is now in Window mode, and with one core turned off. Game still does 100% cpu spikes every time you load a new map. But hey now i can get out of the game, and kill the process, without worrying about corrupting system files. xD Last edited by Skekvar#3184 on Jan 18, 2025, 4:42:47 PM

Holy!! good thing I didn't delete my windows.old. THANK YOU. It was indeed the 24h2 causing the problem.

Guys, if you are still looking for a fix try this:
- Use PoEUncrasher - https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher/releases - Use process lasso - and set POE2 CPU to HIGH (always), and HDD priority to HIGH (always). - While using Vulkan if the gears stop turning, alt + tab. - Directx 12 seems to be working better. Hope this helps. |

I agree with the creator of this thread. Never had this issue before patch 0.1.1 was launched.
