POE2 PC Freeze Investigation
Health Checks on the System Ensured all drivers and BIOS are up to date. Tested SSD, HDD, and M.2 disk health (No issues). Tested RAM memory (No issues). Monitored CPU temperatures—no thermal throttling, temps remain steadily under 70°C with some slight spikes just above 70°C. Tests Conducted Tested other demanding games known to stress the system (No crashes in Ready or Not, Marvel Rivals, Hell Let Loose, etc.). Uninstalled KB5048667, which some users on the POE2 forums claimed caused PC freezes (No effect). Undervolted CPU to check for stability improvements (No effect). Disabled UPnP in router, as Windows event logs pointed toward it as a potential issue (No effect). Reinstalled network drivers based on Windows event log suggestions (No effect). Ran benchmarks to stress-test the system (No issues under load). Verified game files via the game client (No effect). Bought a new computer (upgraded from Ryzen 5600X + RTX 2060 to Ryzen 9800X3D + RTX 4080 SUPER) with all new components (Issue persists). Attempted to replicate the issue by watching 1080p videos and Netflix while playing POE2 (Cannot consistently replicate; occurs randomly, mainly when transitioning to new zones). Streamed at 60 FPS (Discord & Twitch) while playing POE2—system froze after transitioning through three zones. Encountered error: "The service l1vhlwf could not start due to the following error: There is no available hypervisor function for the user." Attempted to disable Hyper-V using PowerShell command bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off (No effect). Findings The crash occurred twice while teleporting around zones, specifically in Ogham Farm Fields. The issue appears to be caused by shader loading, which seems to be the root cause of the problem. Things I Won't Test Downgrading Windows to 23H2 – While many have recommended this as a solution, I have yet to try it. Using Affinity as a Workaround – I am aware that this method works, but I refuse to use it. Pictures Fix ur game GGG. EDIT: I tried to undervolt both cpu and gpu, issue goes away for a while and then comes back, not as frequently but it does still happen. Problem is not related to hardware issues or factory OC. It is 100% the game that is causing this problem. Multithreading + shaders are my suspected cultprits. Last edited by wiken#0237 on Jan 18, 2025, 6:34:28 AM

Downloading PoEUncrasher on Github fixed my issue with 24H2 freeze, the app automatically removes 2 cores during loading screens and then gives the cores back.

So I have asus N7600P
I7 11300 . Rtx 3050 4gb And 16 ram and ssd The game is freezing like i am playing on dandy! Fps 20-30 and cpu 100% No additional programs are running! Only one game. I didn’t see the requirements for hardware before and started thinking maybe i need to by 32gb and rtx 4070 with 12gb, but seams this is not a case. And problem some there. What kind of hardware do you use? |

Also, I too experienced full freeze and only restart button was helping when i moved from location to location!
And aslo, iat the beginning it was not so, some update brought it to the game. |

Not only loading screens, not only since last update, since day 1, gotten worse, gotten better, but never gone away.
Not POE freezing. This nonsense locks up the entire pc. No BSOD, no CTD, FROZEN. No other application in the history of my time with computers since 1990 has done this nonsense. Fix broken garbage. You don't have to be Pro to have FUN!!

I was having similar Windows 11 problems with the game just crashing out with no error message after n minutes. Sometimes then repeatedly closing itself on game restart after the GGG intro, then working again.
Setting processor affinity to P-cores only did mitigate the issue. I was beginning to suspect processor failures after the recent Intel fiasco, and had installed firmware updates, no luck. My ludicrious fix: 1) change no hardware, 2) install Linux. Running flawlessly for me on Linux Mint via Steam and Proton. Same system that was dying repeatedly. No hardware changes. Did have lag after 35-40 minutes unless using controller, but turns out is a Steam input bug with an equally known workaround. |
