Hard crashing PC locks up

The only workaround that has worked for me is disabling Engine Multithreading before every load screen. By every load screen I mean only when logging into my character, before every new zone and using a portal/waypoint. It's annoying, but I played for a solid 10 hours yesterday without a crash.

If there were some way to automate that using the in game menu feature, which has to be just a simple boolean in memory, then virtually everyone in this thread would be able to play (most of) the game.

Technically it's possible to read Client.txt like PoEUncrasher does to trigger a toggle, but so far as anyone knows the only way to flag Engine Multithreading as FALSE would be to use a pixel based macro that clicks through the menus quickly.

That is risky though as macros are typically considered cheats in most modern games. So the best we've got is manual clicking as you use, which not all players are willing to bother with.

in risk of repeating shit, is the MOBO bios up to date? if so, is the bios set to XMP for RAM? XMP might not be validated for your vendor.

faulty RAM will lockup, stresstest it =)

I gave you the benefit of doubt but...

Here we see another example of "those people".

GGG year's end bonus crew is at it again with their private profile or in this case an achievement/challenge completion that is not proportional to their membership time, 4 page post history, and no item filters.

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.

I've just come to the conclusion that the developers from a technical standpoint (stable game standpoint) are incompetent. PoE 1 has similar issues, most notably crashes (not complete PC frozen and locked out without hard rebooting like this one).

Everyone likes to give the Diablo devs shit, but at least they can make a stable product that doesn't crash multiple times a day, and is quick to fix game breaking bugs.

I expect the GGG devs will get this fixed, but the game will and always will (even after full release) have issues with crashing and freezing and glitching like PoE 1 has, because the game is built on the exact same engine as PoE1.

Investigation continued:

I got a memory dump of my system right as when the issue occurs and I am looking through it now.

Interstingly, the game partially recovers when the process dump completes. The game returns to the main menu screen.

Additional Note: My impression is that the crash is much more likely to occur when loading to and from the hideout in ACT 2.

Wow. Are you familiar with kd and dump analyzing? If yes, please reveal some details, because I can't reproduce that shit on several systems including Windows 10, Arch Linux, Mint, Ubuntu and Nobara. Didn't test on Windows 11, but too lazy to set that office bloatware up.

The game has a spaghetti code problem due to its development over the years being "plug yet another system". It is obvious from dozens of "simpler" bugs where X doesn't work as intended, probably because X was inheriting that behaviour from something else in the original code and it is not inheriting it now because that part does not exist in the new code.

I've played WoW since day 1. I played the disastrous original FFXIV. None of them had any problem like this at all. PoE2 is the only game, and in fact the only non-virus, non-worm program that I've seen that actually crashes PCs in this manner. I mean I've seen freezing PCs due to not satisficing hardware requirements but this? There are bleeding edge PCs out there crashing hard.

It is not even consistently replicable. I've mentioned this but I have a friend with a netcafe, they have literally 100s of PCs with exact same configuration, built in same day, and operated the same way... Some crash, some don't.

I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1. I apologize for any unanswered messages.
I think I managed to fix this bug. In my case, it turned out that when loading to another location, sometimes I saw that the temperature counter disappeared on the computer case, and then the computer hung. Only after closing POE2 through the task manager did the temperature display return, I thought that it might be related and decided to disable the software that was responsible for monitoring the temperature of the processor and graphics card and displaying it on the case. I disabled programs such as PoEUncrasher. I noticed that it loads faster to new locations. If you have any counters on the computer case or programs that monitor the work of the GPU and CPU, disable them all and check the result. I hope this is the solution to this problem.
Love to see how joes have BIG expereince played... 5 games making assumption about that it's only PoE issue. Sure, every single product (he played) doesn't have similar issues. Approved by Joe the "Internet Stranger".

Except these ones

Cyberpunk 2077 freezes PC completely

ARMA 3 HARD FREEZES YOUR COMPUTER? and this
Minecraft causes whole computer to freeze + unresponsive. Possible driver problem?
Shader Compiling freezes Unreal Engine
My pc freezes and crashes while playing fortnite
BattlEye causing PC crash at first launch of the game 95% of the time (going on for ~6 months so far)
and many others.

Sure, don't blame Joe, he just didn't check other products. He 100% sure it's GGG fault because when he played Diablo everything was ok.

That's not a solution, that's a quick fix.

Many UE5 games are experiencing similar issues with shader compilation. For example, Marvels Rival, Black Myth: Wukong, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 have hard lock-ups or reboot issues during shader compilation as well

Keep licking those boots man!
Almost a month and nothing official but a vague line on a known issues page laying the blame on a recent windows update which, as shown in many reports, is not true since the problem occurs on earlier versions.

Just to add a bit of context, there are 2 main threads about this issue which GGG staff have responded to with one copy/paste post in each. At time of writing, those 2 threads have combined 6150 posts and 576,317 views.

Over half a million views from customers on the official forum alone = one line from GGG on known issues and no further updates.

When refunding on steam just link these threads and highlight how the game sold thru steam could permanently damage your PC, and there remains no ETA or update in almost 30 days on this problem. If they deny, just try a few times and steam will honor the refund despite hours played. They're quite good like that.

As a sidenote, the fact this problem has gone unreported on major POE youtube channels shows how deeply they're in GGG's pocket. If this was a certain other ARPG they'd be outraged but GGG is providing their income for the next few years and new zealand is quite a pretty country to visit.
