Hard crashing PC locks up
I'm starting to lose hope on this matter. Really, you guys should too...
After 5 days of intensive freezes/crashes and multiple attempts to solve the issue, nothing has stopped the Crashes/Freezes. Nothing. And here is what I tried: - Disabling cores 0 and 1 - NO GOOD. Only prevents freezing, but constant crashes to desktop still happen. - Disabling multithreading - NO GOOD. Also prevents freezing, but game still crashes to desktop. - Disabling all cores but 0 and 1 - NO GOOD. Tried because someone raised this question. - Changing in-game settings, between DX12, Vulkan, DX11, all kinds of FPS defined options from 60 to 240, Triple buffering, screen resolution, etc. - NO GOOD. Still Freezes and crashes with cores 0 and 1 deselected. - Adding "--noasync --nologo --waitforpreload" to Steam Launch Options - NO GOOD! Changed nothing, apart from initializing faster due to no logo, still crashes the same. - Clearing all sorts of Shader Caches: NVIDIA > GLCache, Roaming > PoE2 > ShaderCacheD3D12, Vulkan, SteamApps > ShaderCache, Local > Temp, NVIDIA > PerDriverVersion, minimap cache, etc... - NO GOOD! Sessions last a bit longer, but still Freezes and crashes after 20 minutes or so. - Changing NVIDIA control panel 3D settings: Shader cache all options from User defined to 100GB and Unlimited. - NO GOOD. Still crashes. - NVIDIA 3D settings Vulkan/OPENGL to DXGI - NO GOOD. Still crashes. - Steam verification of files integrity - NO GOOD. No errors found. - Turning off XMP2.0 and use default speed of RAM. - NO GOOD. Changed nothing apart from slower memory. Same freezes/crashes. - Virus threat&protection / antimalware disabling - NO GOOD. Still freezing. - Tried installing PoE2 via client and Epic Games (also reinstalling on Steam) - NO GOOD. Exactly same freezes and crashes (without cores 0 and 1). - Running Steam and PoE2 as administrator - NO GOOD. Same crashes. Probably tried other options as well but forgot to list here, since I've been trying everything for the past 5 days. The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling Windows 24H2 and installing 23H2, because I REFUSE TO UNINSTALL MY WINDOWS DUE TO GGG INCOMPETENCY. I give up. Going back to Baldurs Gate 3 (which btw has never crashed on ULTRA settings). I wish GGG devs were the same from Larian studios. Specs: i7 14700KF GTX 4070 Super 32GB RAM w11 24H2 |

I love reading this thread and finding a new possible solution only to find a page later it didn't work for everyone else lol. I wish GGG would at least say they're making progress at identifying this issue. I can be patient if I know its being worked on.

Experiencing this issue as well. PC freezes and requires a hard restart on loading screens. Disabling multithreading before entering an area prevents the crash.
4070 Super 7600x WIN 24H2 Actually just upgraded to am5 to play poe2 and thought it must be overheating or something because I didn't crash on my old PC (i5 6600k, win 10). All drivers and updates installed. |

" They are still working on it and didn't find a proper solution, that's why they say nothing. I'm no expert on this matter but after all the troubleshooting I did and, the ones that appear every hour in this thread I assume the problem it's in the engine and it's not a easy fix. |

Had same problem on 7900X3D, disabling SMT in Process Lasso seems to work for me, just in case helps anyone.

I'm getting the same issue randomly when changing zones. My computer just locks up and I have to force it to shut down and then start it up again.
I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 with a GeForce 4070 on Windows 11 24H2. |

" Did you do it for all 4 locations of Path of Exile 2 files? I did it and I have stopped crashing after 264 crashes at least so far. I know Its not definitive and I could just be getting lucky but it seems to be working. I excluded these 4 locations 1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games 2. C:\Users\%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2 3. C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2 4.C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA app\NvBackend\ApplicationOntology\data\wrappers\path_of_exile_dx11 The last one Probably had nothing to do with it but since it was connected to path I just added it to the exclusions from windows defender as explained by OP. If this fix fails in the future I will make sure to post the failure. But for now I am finally enjoying the game with no interruptions and actually Moving from zone to zone much faster than even when my game was behaving before. P.S. I know GGG still needs to fix this despite any work arounds we find in the community And I am sure they will so this process is no longer necessary. I believe this wholeheartedly. Patience is key. And yes it is possible for major game breaking bugs to not be seen during closed beta. No game has zero bugs. Look at Cyberpunk when it came out. I was willing to play still with the crashes because I love the game and I knew sooner or later they will fix this. I am just so happy that this work around is working for now while we wait for them to fix the real underlying issue. |

" You know what ill edit my post, I did it only for the steam files. But ill respect this send thx. Definitely worth adding to the list of try to do's and this goes to the top of that list |

" Are you ok knowing that user mode application crashes the entire system so easy? So if some script kiddo decides to (re-)compile hlsl (or dxil) shaders in bulk in max possible threads he just can freeze your PC? WOW! Nice security. Sure, blame GGG. One single application fucks the system so badly that the OS can't display bug check. Did you check the links I dropped before? Some developer had completely the same problem compiling shaders for their game. |
