Hard crashing PC locks up

Are you getting the same crashes where the PC locks up with the mouse moving slowly and music still playing but PC is frozen? From what I'm seeing there's different types of crashes but that specific one was the crashes I was experiencing and Windows 23H2 has fixed it.

Yeah, that's the form of the crash I experience. Then the only solution is to hard restart (Unless I block POE from 4 cores, then its able to be killed from Task Manager still).

Unfortunately no version of Windows or any fix in any thread has stopped the issue from happening, just given countermeasures to prevent it from starving the rest of the system when it does inevitably happen.
I was able to fix all the crashes (90% of them were during location changes) by disabling multicore enhancement in Bios and setting my CPU Power limits to Intel recommended. Iccmax and CPU package power. It turned out it was CPU instability of 13-th Intel generation. Never had any issues in other games though.

Windows event viewer says POE2 been crashing cuz of:

Faulting application path: E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile 2\PathOfExileSteam.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_9425e4c3b1ac1c47\nvgpucomp64.dll

I've googled "nvgpucomp64.dll" related crashes and it turned out it's CPU instability by ICCmax and CPU Power package. Hope it helps to Intel CPU owners.
No single crash since that fix.

So what's problem? If you scared of losing your data / hardware - don't run the game and wait till industry will fix the bug.

It's happeing with PoE 2 - yes. It is PoE 2 problem? - no proof.

chkdsk scans for logical issues related to NTFS. If you don't want to diagnose these type of error - feel free not to do that. Easy.

Appreciate for your efforts. nvgpucomp64.dll is a part of HLSL user mode compiler package.

Problem is that a software which people have paid for might cause them to lose money and time, and the developers of the said software are seemingly deflecting and minimising the issue.

In problem diagnosis there is a concept called concept of isolation or specific causality. When an issue occurs only with one specific element and not with others under the same conditions, it strongly suggests that the problem lies with that specific element.

I added the last 2 questions to rule out other variables. This way we can satisfy the condition of proof to near-certainty at an acceptable confidence level.

If it is only happening with PoE2 and is not happening with any other program, then the problem is isolated on PoE2.

You are on a topic discussing potential hardware damage and offer a solution that not only does not check for hardware damage but would most probably miss it. Therefore it looks like you are trying to be misleading on purpose -if you are knowledgeable- or if we were to give you the benefit of doubt, simple inadequacy and being way over your head.

Was your crash a crash to desktop or a locked out PC requiring shutdown via power button?

It is 100% not solely tied to 24h2. Many people have talked about rolling back to 23h2 as well as going to Win10 and it still persisting. I am currently on 23h2 and have the issue.

Correct, the issue persists in 23h2 as well, I am just saying I do think "most" users experiencing constant crashing are on 24h2. I am on 24h2 (had to windows was corrupted and needed to reinstall) and I get crashes constantly.

4090
5800x
32gb of ram with XMP enabled
GEN 4 SSD

I have all default settings except XMP, and a pretty fresh 24h2 install, so this means that most likely anyone with a similar config is having constant crashes, including most on recent AMD CPUS. I do think people that have taken time to UNDERVOLT/Custom PBO their CPUS are experiencing less crashes, but that would mean that people who haven't done so (most users) are experiencing constant crashing.

Since it is such a CPU-bound issue, it would make sense that people who undervolted their CPUS have better stability.

I do think the phenomenon of half a million people or whatever playing the game with zero problems are people on Windows 10, not on the most recent version of Windows, I just think that is why this isn't a problem for literally everyone.

I don't think it's a PoE2 thing in exclusivity, but it's definitely the only game that has exploited the vulnerability that I'm aware of.

It reminds me of the 'burning GPUs' with New World, I believe that was the game that caused the drama.

Regardless, if so many people are having issues there's something here obviously pushing the CPU past their limits.

I, for instance, have my 9800X3D with some undervolt, and I've been using it for close to a month with 0 issues other than when I was testing for stability in Cinebench.

I instantly crashed the first time loading Clearfell Campament on launch day. I lowered the undervolt ever since and I crash a lot less, but I still crash 5-6 times per day.

And even though in theory nothing should happen to your PC other than perhaps some OS corruption (aka nothing permanent) it's still scary as hell.

And it definitely should be fixed and addressed.

One quick hotfix would be so their data stream when loading is staggered to avoid pushing the CPU so much while they investigate it. I'm baffled they haven't done it yet.

By "here" you mean POE2 as obviously stated. Theres definitely a selection bias on saying its 24H2

I am not who you're asking but yeah, I am. I tried a clean install of 22H2, after a clean install of 23h2 (w11) and this is the last thing I try after trying everything that's posted in this forums. Sometimes it's with the mouse moving slowly till it hangs, sometimes it's just a sudden hang. Sometimes sound stops after a few mins, sometimes it just repeats another section. Nothing works.

I submitted the dxdiag, I'll be playing on PS5 till people here post it's solved.
