So I mainly play on PC but my roommate who isn't the most avid of gamers really only enjoys playing on consoles (Prefers controllers) and the couch co-op may give a good reason for him to play. My question is this however, if I have it on PS5 for my account can we do couch co-op with a single purchase or will his account also need to have it in order to make that work? Any info would be appreciated. I tried to search for the answer but came up empty.
Thanks in advance!

GGG gave the finger to SONY so no. You can’t do anything albeit play cross play with PSN. There’s no transferring characters. No MTX transfers no cross progression no linking accounts. It’s truly a slap in the face but hey it’s a free game so don’t expect much from it tbh.
I tried to get PSN players to speak up weeks ago and simply crickets… I was one of the only people pleading with GGG. Thus, nothing and nobody cares. I lost ALL of my support packs from PSN because of GGG. But again. Can’t expect much from a free game. Just won’t be buying any more support packs other than the one I got. They won’t receive any more money from me that’s for sure

Perhaps I missed the giving the finger post but I was under the impression that you could link the accounts to the same POE account (under my account it shows my steam one and PS one) and then switch between which one on the char select screen. If I'm wrong and can't play my PC chars on my PS5 then this was a terrible mistake to think I could and have wasted an extra 30 bucks for nothing. C'est la vie I suppose.

I bought on both (mostly for this reason) and then realized "Oh shit, what if it has to be purchased on his account too!?" and hence the post. Just going to try and see how it goes at this point.

Thank you for the answer about my actual question.
Honestly I think the other poster didn't see that as long as your accounts are linked you can play whichever sub account you want (for my understanding). If I'm wrong then well poop...

hold up, there IS character cross progression, just no shared microtrahsaction spend (including the EA key as far as we know)
If a PC-and-PS5 user wants to couch-co-op with a PS5-only user...
then the PS5-only user needs to buy an EA key on the PS5, and the PC-and-PS5 user needs to buy an EA key for *both* PC and the PS5.
Character progression can be shared, but the microtransactions can not, so if the PC user wants to have an extra stash tab accessible on both platforms, he needs to double purchase it on both PC and PSN.
WHen the game is in final release, it's free-to-play, so there will no longer be a requirement to buy an EA key on PS5 to play there, but PC and PSN microtransactions will still not be shared (unless something changes).
I BELIEVE the reason this situation exists is mostly out of GGG's control... Sony is notorious for lock-in, and they likely required all microtransactions that work on PS5 be bought on PS5.
Because of this, GGG couldn't allow PSN microtransactions to work on PC, or every user who wanted to play 5% of their time on PS5 would have bought *everything* on PS5, causing GGG to lose 30% to SOny's cut for users who play 95% on PC, which frankly just would not be fair.
Every other platform has opted into the "shared microtransactions" (either explicitly, or because of their policies), so anything you buy on Steam, direct, xbox, epic is shared among all platforms... even though when you buy from a 3rd party they are taking a cut and GGG makes less money.
So the only way to fix this is to lobby SOny that this is stupid and they should allow shared microtransactions. Good luck.

There was one of the videos I was watching that showed selecting a sub account through the char select screen so that no matter what platform you were on you could play chars from the others. Now if I misinterpreted it that's on me but I'm pretty sure when I choose my PC account on the PS5 it should have my MTX from there showing even on my PS5 but the barebones MTX I have on PS5 will not be showing. Like I said, on me if I misinterpreted what I saw.
*Edit*
Also I've given GGG a bunch over time so the $30 on PS5 is just extra for them I guess.

No matter what character you login to on PS5, you will not be able to use MTX that was not in your PS5 account.
This means if you buy a stash tab on your PC account, and you login to that PC sub account character on PS5, you will *NOT* see the stash tab. At least that's the way they explained it... No microtransaction purchases are shared between PC and PS5 at all.
We are not 100% clear about how the EA keys themselves work, but from what I have read, you need an EA key on your PSN account to login to PS5... (I'm guessing login happens via PSN and you can't even enter your web email/password, but who knows)
This means I think the process for playing a PC character on PS5 is:
1. create PSN account
2. buy EA key package on PSN store
3. go to your POE web account page -> manage account -> linkn Sony PSN
4. login to that PSN account and use your PC character on PS5
