Cold Chronomancer Megathread. All content cleared. Leveling guide added.
" I went with Frostbolt 1st, CoC 2nd, FW 3rd, EoW last. So yeah, CoC in your case. " Accidentaly checked some reddit. Sometimes it can be useful. Anyway, it clearly skyrocketed the importance of EoW in my eyes. I didn't question myself before about how much crit chance is enough. |
yeah.
Noticing that Malice aura scaled its application rate with level was interesting. I found it way too slow to be viable early game, but by level 17/18ish, I felt it was stacking quick enough to matter. EoW could potentially be faster of course. but so many other problems with it. crit weakness/chain/fork etc doesn't work on frost walls. sot he walls, will each your EoW bolts. EoW itself hitting like a wet noodle, and failing to build crit energy well. Arguably the same with freeze/shock,etc buildup. Do you feel with high amounts of crit DAMAGE, it actually builds crit energy well? that could be the missing component for my testing. |

" Definitely yes, since ele ailments work with damage the best. So, more damage we deal - better energy generation CoC has. Scaling Crit is really good for that. For example: non-crit builds, freeze, 1000 cold damage. We put Controlled Destruction (30% more damage) and Glaciation (50% more freeze build up). So, freeze build up goes like we deal 1950 damage. If I get it right. On the other hand, crit and 300% multi. Sounds like 4000 freeze build up on crit for me. Thats the reason why Ambush is so important, and comet/frost bomb are so good in generating energy for CoC - they hit like a truck. And also the reason why Ice Nova/EoW are that bad. They are just too weak per hit. Oh, about EoW. In my setup with unleash, it applies both Cold (on crit) and Lightning exposure (on shock) on max difficulty bosses. Means, even with supportive gems it deals enough total damage to actually shock big asses with their stupidly high ele ailment thresholds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edit: Well, this is still about finding the sweet spot between increased damage and crit damage. Like 100 damage with 400% multi would be the same as 200 damage with 150% multi. So the question is what's easier to get. Like, 15% crit damage small passive is slightly stronger than 10% spell damage for me. About 1% more damage. And 3x15% crit damage is ~3% more damage than 3x10% increased spell damage. Also, I found smth I misunderstood. I thought that Deadly Force adds critical damage, but it's actually increased. So, I have just 306% crit multi. Sooo, I'm dead set on going Maligaros route. And I don't think it's "cheap alternative" anymore. Pretty expensive to actually fit while fixing everything. Last edited by monik390#5560 on Jan 14, 2025, 3:10:02 PM

" Yo, thanks for the help, dude! I ended up figuring it out, so I’m gonna drop what worked for me here in case someone else is struggling with bosses. Turns out it was all about the gear. The big changes for me were the wand, the jewels, and the chest piece. First, I grabbed this wand: That made a huge difference. I also went all-in on crit damage and crit chance on my jewels. Before, my jewels were a complete mess — I had random stuff on them. Now I’ve got three jewels with recover 2% mana on kill, and the rest are focused on damage. Another big change was swapping my sceptre to one that gives me all the spirit I need for the build. That meant I could skip spirit on my body armour, which made the chest way cheaper. I ended up getting a 900 energy shield piece, which boosted my mana by a ton. Now I’m nuking bosses, just like you guys in the videos. Appreciate the help again! |

Is it possible to set Time Freeze to cast only with Weapon Set 2?
" You can't set class skills to a weapon set, but you can set your debuffs like conductivity and soul offering to weapon set 2 to make sure you're on weapon set 2 for time freeze when starting a boss. If you're not starting a boss and want to time freeze, you'll have to manually switch weapon swap if you want to take advantage of weapon set 2. |
hey peeps,
im kinda new here, what's the best jewel stats for this build? thank you! |
" 2% mana on kill > Critical Damage > Critical Chance > Elemental/spell damage > AoE > Effect of Aura. Get at least 3-4x2% Mana on Kill. Scale Critical Chance until you have 60% Comet. Everything else - in Critical Damage. Some AoE is nice to have too. |
" Monik, you are a lifesaver! I'm going to find these gems now, one more question; i have extra 70 spirit due to using Morior Invictus (with spirit) and against the dark jewel (which is also, a spirit jewel; what do you think is best to put in? CoF? another CoC? Thanks! I can also take out the spirit timeless and slot it mana timeless instead. |
" You are welcome. Blink fr. If you have enough dex - Elemental Invocation-Comet. If not - CoF-Frost Wall or Comet, whatever you prefer. Elemental Invocation is really good. Can store up to 3 Comets. |
