Cold Chronomancer Megathread (WIP). CoF nerfed. Very slow gameplay now.

Anyone try out some Comet + Hourglass shenanigans yet? And to be able to reset cooldown?

Seems like it would be good cause it freezes and just stack crit damage with comet with "Biting Frost" which gaurentees a crit?

Maybe even Cast on Freeze Comet? I dont know if you can support that with Hourglass, but could be some good damage while spamming.

Got frost wall.
got cast on freeze.

not sold on cast on freeze. despite constant freezing. im not 100% sure where it really fits. I have it doing hypothermia atm. which is.. ok. but not a hard button press. not worth.

great news. frostwall worked great. 3scd, 3 charges. slaughtered act2 boss with it and frost bomb. never even had to cast frost bolt or nova. cast cold snap a couple times.

but frostwall spam locked him down. he couldn't move. raw dps wasnt insane. but the lockdown was great.


Edit:testing frost wall.

versus trash its more inconsistent. bosses and large enemies it appears to explode instantly, when placed under them. dealing lots of damage. smaller enemies it just pushes away. so you will need to explode it.
default wall has a lot of hp. takes me 2 frost bombs to blow it up. nova and ice bolt do not hit hard enough to blow them up.

pathing over to the -60% crystal node. also we should consider comet. or flameblast. or maybe eye of winter.

I dont think fortress adds anything. spamming multiple walls does the same thing without the massive damage loss.

very mana burn heavy.


All cold builds.
freeze magnitude should probably be a priority. since freeze is now action speed, and bosses can be frozen. stacking and restacking this over and over is going to be pretty key.

This is what I am thinking of for passives atm. A big??? is Recoup is 8s default. The second chrono recoup node makes recoup 4s. now, the first chrono recoup is life recoup... the second does not specify. so should also include mana recoup. so THAT node might actually be better then the full CD refresh, or temp rift.

I haven't found a good use for cast on freeze yet.


cast on freeze, elemental invocation, and blasphemy are 60 spirit each.
start of act 3, I've not found another +30 spirit yet.. so only 30 base.
needing to use a spirit scepter to use any of those three.

so blasphemy for enfeeble or hypothermia is -23% effect iirc. persistent, and easy enough though. blash+enfeeble is probably the right choice.

cast on freeze for what? hypothermia? well, frees a button. but, only after the target is frozen.
cold snap? casts once. lots of targets get frozen. and do we even want to consume the freeze, or better to use that time to regen, and hit the target with other spells? also means we can't actively cast it. not good.
nova. cant active cast it, and we want it to pop trash quick.
icebolt/eye of winter/comet. maybe. not much of a point though.


elemental invocation. this is similar. builds energy on freeze, ignite, and shock. and when full, spams the linked spell repeatedly, until discharged.
this might have use. esp if you are using flamewall/eye/or lighting as well.

I saw people using comet and spell echo with cast on freeze with good effects.

chrono would be way better if Apex of the Moment actually worked.

I agree with the passive tree and freeze buildup. I had similar thoughts. Your tree is neatly optimized. I am adding it to the guide.

Anyway, I'm at the beginning of act 3 now, need some time to get there and see.

This is my tree. Ending act 3 now.
I use frostwall + frostbomb to stack freeze and then comet linked with hourglass.
Cast on freeze consumes too much mana and I don't know yet what speel should be used with it. As for 20% slow ascendancy, i think it doesn't work. I even picked 10% increased slow in passive tree, can't see difference.
