Cold Chronomancer Megathread. Fully updated.
" I agree, CoF - Cold Snap works like wonders. I tried first CoF - Frost Bomb, but it's much better for clearing with cold snap |
|
" How fast are you clearing with it and what support gems are you using? |
|
" It obviously isn't as fast but it at least improves wave clear much better than relying on CoF - Comet for mobbing. It is fast enough to deal with the white mobs better that I can spam Frost Bolt again and just have Cold Snap finish off most of them in the process. Right now I'm sticking to Cold Snap - Impetus - Spell Echo (the cold snap will either target another frozen mob or a frost bolt). Cold Snap works since it has only a 0.50 sec cast time, so it requires much less energy to keep trigger. Then I just keep Comet as a free spell, but honestly I barely touch this so I just keep it in reserve and swap to comet when I'm dealing with a boss. And I also prefer comet against the boss so I can take the time the boss is frozen to avoid mechanics or just get a breather, plus the comet will destroy the ice walls more reliably. Although if the boss is mob heavy then I would stick to cold snap. Last edited by Chaplin132000#5484 on Dec 12, 2024, 8:33:49 PM

" It's quite fast. I play two Cold Snaps. My single Frostbolt cast freezes almost everything and immediately procs CoF Cold Snaps, finishing off mobs very fast. When it doesn't proc and some singular mobs left frozen - I finish them off manually with second Cold Snap. For big mobs and bosses I have Frost Wall and big Comet. Found myself not using Ice Nova and Frost Bomb at all now. Frostbolt: Scattershot, Unleash, Glaciation This way one FB cast is usually enough to freeze most things. CoF Cold Snap: Impetus, Spell Cascade Manual Cold Snap: Considered Casting, Magnified Effect, Arcane Surge Magnified Effect - for more coverage just in case. Arcane Surge - not really useful, not sure what else to use. Frost Wall: Arcane Tempo, Icicle, Cold Penetration This is alternate way to freeze big mobs and bosses. Penetration seems useful since mostly I use walls when bosses are not frozen yet. Comet: Spell Echo, Controlled Destruction, Concentrated Effect This is just used occasionally and in boss fights. Hourglass might be the play here too. For passives I go for Invocated Efficiency, Energise and Dynamism to guarantee as fast as possible CoF Snaps. Other things are similar to what has been discussed in this thread for previous build: EB, Arcane Intensity, Shattered Crystal, Heavy Frost, Harsh Winter, Thin Ice, Pliable Flesh, etc. |

" " Thank you both. It sounds like you are playing something really similar and I'm inspired to try it since I have all the gems. Can either of you show me your passive tree? |

How do you stay alive with EB on, I never really had issues killing mobs but swapping to EB and removing all my ES makes me so squishy.

" It's pretty gnarly. It's ok on packs when you can wall them. But I'm not able to beat a boss in Act 2 Cruel because i can't rely on that and die in one shot to any ability. |

" My build isn't that diffeent from the builds right now I just emphasized as well on taking energy related nodes for better generation, and in turn wave clear. That said my gems are mostly cold pen 5% and up alongside freeze build up and cast speed. On the side I'm now focusing on additional mana, so I took eldritch battery and taking the easy to access mana regen nodes. Reason for this is I picked up a wand with +3 to cold skill gems and a focus that has +2 to skill gems. So I use up A LOT of mana due to my gems being so high level but basically everything is deleted because of how high the skill gems are. Last edited by Chaplin132000#5484 on Dec 13, 2024, 4:52:49 AM
