Made it to cruel, and im curious if anyone had massive difficulty with ed? I followed a few of the builds in this chat, but man it just feels bad.

Hoping we either get a buff or something soon for HC content.

I usually just use chain, from what i understand the initial hit of essence drain can crit, so im gonna try doing a cast on crit connected to contagion with a curse aura and go all into def for maps

I got to Cruel without any problems, a ton of damage. I think the massive game changer is +skill gem levels, you need a lot of those. Originally i had +3 at level 30, and it was shreding everything, it slowed down a lot by the end of act 3, becuase i didn't upgrade my weapons in pretty much 20 levels.

I think Demon form is a good option to not straggle with damage, becuase it gives +5 skill levels and 140 or 170% increase spell damage at 10 stacks at level 40, you just need to get a little bit of regen on gear to sustain 10 stacks.

p.s by "ton of damage" i meant more than i had on Ignite infernalist which had pretty much no damage at all. it's still not anywhere near as much damage as Weaver builds or gas exploders.

Can you stay in Demonform with this regen? I had 75% of your nodes, didn't take Full Recovery though and I still got killed in Demonform.

I also realized that Demonform negates weapons and kind of lost interest in it.

I have flat life regen on my armor. I actually dropped all of the regen nodes on the tree and dropped zealot's oath for now as well (might path back to it later)

Personally I did not have any issues with bosses or clear for all of the campaign since first ascendancy unlocking Demon Form.

I am currently in maps with 3336 ES, capped fire res, 50% other res

I am still running maximum 10 demonflame ascendancy, and maps are a breeze. I toss out ed->contagion and throw out Dark Effigy with withering touch and can't remember the name but the support that makes totems cast like 80% faster. Its basically instant cast.

I run whispers of Doom and mostly just use Despair only for super dense packs or super tanky rares/bosses. Apart from that I have chaotic freeze on my contagion and Enfeeble on Blasphemy (might switch to Temp Chains) so if I ever get surrounded I just spam spell echo hex blast on top of me. This pretty instantly kills chaff and freezes any remaining beefy bois

Having watched content of other builds, this is absolutely not a hyper zoom crazy build, its more akin to cold dot occultist in PoE1. Its not a zoomer, but its a reliable tanky damage dealer. It won't kill bosses the fastest in the game, but there is basically zero excuse to ever die on a boss because all you have to do is cast dots every 7-8 seconds and then focus on dodging. Even still, Doryani in Cruel Act 3 was maybe 2-3 minute fight tops. The thing with DoT builds is their DPS is not flashy, but your uptime should be basically 100%.

EDIT: just want to add, do not ignore Skill Effect duration nodes on the tree. Even just one "cluster" of them makes a massive QoL difference. I have 55% from tree and 12% from a jewel and then with ED swift affliction->chain->persistence it still has a duration of almost 9 seconds and this is before 20% quality.

Duration is not "dps", but it does help keep up consistent damage while not destroying your mana pool and makes bosses much more relaxed. The goal of DoT builds is never raw dps, its about dps uptime.

Your build is inspiring and it's exactly what I'm wanting to build thank you.
I would have just one question : have you considered / tested to go beyond 10 stack of demon form with better flat Regen (and possibly less max life) ?
I've heard some folks on reddit who achieved 150+stacks...
Any thoughts ?

So most chaos builds seem to be shifting to hexblast, is it still worth it going chromo then? Can't find anyone playing it endgame

i’m currently playing chronomancer with hexblast(also using ED for triggering chaos totem with withering touch). From chrono i get slow for enemies and recoup. i can say that it helps for tanking enemy attacks, but right now my main issue is mana management. Hexblast uses tons of mana even with support gem for less skill cost.
Also right now i’m in cruel act 2 and it feels pretty good
