No Mac version POE 2, but already knew that months ago
Got an email for early access to POE2 and PC only on computers plus Steam has Windows only listed. Knew this was coming when Beta invites went out and NO Mac systems were listed for testing. I have moved to other games. Lost access to POE at league start when they borked the update. Better off....lolol

I feel for anyone trying to game on a Mac; Apple probably could fix this, but at 10% usage share it's just not a big enough gaming platform to be worth developing MacOS-native versions of games most of the time.
Q: I honestly don't know if this would work, but can you run a Linux distro in a VM on a Mac? If so, could you install Steam on that VM? That wouldn't be easy, but it might be a workaround; with Proton, PoE is definitely playable on Linux. Edit: Installing Linux in a VM on a Mac is possible, but OMFG is it a lot of steps: https://appletoolbox.com/how-to-run-linux-on-mac-a-step-by-step-guide/ Good luck! As a long-suffering mac OS gamer, and someone who has recently felt bruised and abused by the egregious bugs on my platform of choice, I concede that it's not an investment GGG is prepared to maintain. They bit off more than they can chew here, trying to maintain four disparate major platforms (Windows, mac, Linux, console).
The fact is, they could drop the mac today, and I probably wouldn't mind. Running the Windows client on my M1 mac is fairly simple, with comparable frame rates and reliability to what I had with the mac OS client. It actually fixes some minor but annoying issues I had given up on ever seeing resolved on the mac. Here is a detailed thread on the subject: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Guide:Path_of_Exile_on_Mac_using_Windows_Client I'm using Crossover from CodeWeavers, but there are several options available that all seem to be functional. Crossover costs a little money but I like the packaging, and the results totally exceeded my expectations. https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover |

mac users are the same people who bought MSTR at 543

Does Proton work for Mac users?

" It does not. Valve pours millions into Linux gaming because it's their platform of choice for current and future devices like the Steam Deck. It's why you can play almost any Windows games nearly native on Linux now with few exceptions where some games intentionally disallow it via anticheat locks. Some of this work gets upstreamed through Wine to CrossOver via CodeWeavers but not enough. Also the architecture, most games are made for x86/AMD64 processors whereas new macs are ARM-based which means you need an emulator, essentially a VM, running underneath; big performance hit. |

use bootcamp on mac lol

you can always rely on geforce now until the dedicated client is available. If you want, you can play it directly from the browser.

I didn't know they bothered to still make mac

" PoE in Crossover works just fine, IMHO. I've also played Last Epoch with it. " LOL no. Crossover uses Wine, which is most definitely not an emulator and does not suffer the harsh performance hit that emulators impose. Honestly, you've never even tried it, have you? It works as well or better than the native Mac client, at least in part because it gets timely bug fixes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software) " FWIW, bootcamp was for Intel hardware and is not an option for the modern RISC-based Macs. |
