" I don't think the number of new posts is particularly relevant, you only need to make one post and then update it which will then reindex it. Sure it's clunky but not to the extent that you need to make new posts or bump them. Anyway, viability wasn't the point. The point was is it possible to engage in trade at all without premium tabs and the answer to that is yes it is. " That's also not true, items posted in the trade forums will be indexed and visible on the trade site just the same as items placed in premium tabs Last edited by Randall#0850 on May 17, 2024, 4:01:47 PM

Kinda amused i had to click on a random thread in PoEGD to strike Off Topic gold.

He isn't lying; he just has a different idea of 'viable' and, I imagine, a different threshold for acceptable amounts of QoL-as-product.
He should have worded it a little more flexibly (both to you and to me -- note that I didn't respond to it when he said it *at me* because I was like...I don't know if that's true because I never traded in PoE seriously). That he didn't initially speak to viability and instead went straight to a binary of possible/impossible is the *only* reason you have a leg to stand on. There is no denying GGG have made PoE's QoL a product and for most people planning to play PoE,the absence of that product is simply not worth not paying for. The oft-quoted truism remains true: they made a problem and sell the solution. This has, to be fair, not always been the case with PoE. For a while during CB and even some OB, we whales were *convinced* we had more than enough tabs to last forever. But then came premium tabs. Quads. Currency. Essences...and so on. And they ALL make PoE's trading easier and more convenient...And trade in PoE is considered all but mandatory since we know GGG balance the game around the assumption players can and will trade to complete builds (unless they're SSF in which case, here, have a nice little badge you cute little masochist you). You know what DIV doesn't have? A single monetised QoL product. And for some of us, that is one hell of a selling point for a well-made ARPG. Ironic that it's actually the NORM in ARPGs -- This whole selling QoL thing in ARPGs is an issue for precisely one ARPG. Is it the best ARPG ever made? In a lot of ways. But the cost to really enjoy that ARPG is not trivial. Feel free to argue GGG aren't 100% monetising QoL, but it won't be with me. I know which of their MTXes sell the most units (it doesn't take a genius), and which are just there to give you an illusion of a well-stocked shop with plenty of variety. (As an aside, Nintendo do the quite the same thing with their online Switch store: you have essential first-party bestsellers like Mario Kart and Zelda sitting right next to a hundred iterations of shovelware like Jumping Bean Simulator Deluxe. If you stripped out all but their genuinely worthwhile offerings, it'd be a much leaner store.) Also ironically, DIV's ludicrous mtx shop actually is well-stocked with plenty of variety. It's all equally pointless. I like that. That's how cosmetic mtx shops should be. And yes, mtxes in any premium game should be cosmetic only. In a f2p, fuck it. Go wild. Sell storage. Sell character slots. Sell upgrades. I don't care. Just don't have the gall to call it or claim it be a cosmetic mtx shop just because 99% of the items are. We know what that other 1% is.. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable. They sure are necessary for long play but you can trade via mentioned solutions, or in bulk via 3rd party sites. You can purchase from other people like anyone else without restriction. The way he worded it, he made it sound like a binary issue which it isn‘t. It is up to the player to decide how much they want to engage with the trade system.
But even then, how is that an argument for D4 and against PoE? It makes no sense. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
