The Mirror of Kalandra and user retention
" i was making about 100 divines a day farming T8 tropical islands this league wearing gear that in total cost me about 20c in trade, the rest was just bits i found on the floor or crafted with self found orbs. i stopped playing to go play the new diablo 4 season with some friends, while we were playing that game i had poe open on my second monitor to respond to trades and i was crafting jewels in the downtime, if we had a few minutes between nightmare dungeons id spam some currency on some bases. I was still making over 100 divines per day standing in my hideout while playing d4 just from 5 minutes crafting here and there. so if u have 100c and want to beat ubers i think the tactic is you spend 20c of it on gear, you make 100 divines wearing 20c of gear, then spend 100 divines on meta build items and ez mode faceroll the ubers. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" Doubt GGG is making league as busted as Affliction again any time soon, where T7-8 could be as rewarding as T16. " gg :) |

" Not unlikely, could even be just a testing to test out some busted concepts for a league mechanic to keep players and economy entertained even with a smaller amount of players just in case of PoE2 being a big hit. It's easier to just throw in a extremely juicy core league mechanic instead of balancing the game around lower player counts. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" honestly a t8 map this league is probably as hard as a t16 in the base game, the wisps are really quite savage with how tanky they make everything. thing is just finding a niche tbh, a lot of stuff is profitable its just committing to something and doing properly, learning the sector. i dunno, as fun as it all is ive been playing this game for 11 years now, theres been times where ive barely played all year, theres been times ive been at the pc 10 hours a day 7 days a week for 2 months straight. as fun as its been im really not looking to play like this in poe2. to make money through trade in this game it takes a bit of commitment, a lot of time, you have to play around the markets cadence. theres times im sleeping on the sofa in my gaming room with my pc put up on a 65" tv so i can sleep with one eye open looking for a guy to sign on to snipe an item or get that best in slot one of a kind jewel. i have enjoyed being a market player but i think ive shaped enough of my life around poe at this point, this kind of play is not for everyone and although i love it im in the twilight of it being my kind of thing. im not gonna go self found league in poe2 cause i want to party and share with my friends but we will be playing self found between the group. i do understand the desire to just play the game as the basic game in a simple way, you kill the monsters and find items, there is a part of me that would rather just be doing that and the way my free time and commitments are changing atm its where im probably gonna be at this time next year. i dont wanna seem like im putting down playing that way, i totally get why people do it. this might have been my last real committed trading league. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

This league they introduced a drastic meta shift in form of adding transfigured gems and axing helmet enchantments (and alternative quality gems).
They showered us with currency and core drop pool uniques to develop a new meta backbone because the meta was getting a bit stale in 3.22. And this whispwood ascendancy is just there to fix your build - cap suppression, add ele resistances, make yourself reflect immune, get some crit multiplier per power charge, cap crit chance etc. And did the meta actually change? Naaaaaah, cringe TS is still the top. Oh, pen brand got in there because it's a busted skill - i killed mavened ubers in 10 seconds with it on a build that had maybe 400 div invested into it. This is nowhere near a decent physical bow on TS. We need crafting leagues to actually develop meta. Just not like Kalandra league where the main crafting thing (reflect your own ring) showed up literally 4 times in 250 hours of gameplay. |
|
" I literally played 8 builds this season I never could or would have played before this season. Do you expect them to just remove TS from the game or what? You play what you choose to play. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

I dont think they intentionally used this leagues mechanic as a way to give us more items to encourage a new meta. they did the gems to shake up the meta but the league itself is just whatever idea was on the slate to come out next. its an mf league and i dont think they ever intended to change the mf meta.
the mf aspect of this league has sort of hidden the meta shifts because people are just wearing ventors and blowing up juice maps. i think it highlights the problem with magic find. i get what they mean when they say its another vector to improve your character rather than just damage, and thats opening up scope. but in this game thats not how it works. it pushes you into a small selection of quant items and then u have to play a build that works around those specific quant uniques, you cant upgrade ur gear really because ur locked into this set of items. you make a ton of money, but what do you do with the money? if you use it to buy good gear and put it on you stop being rewarded because your rewards are tied to sticking with this unique quant gear set and the small section of builds that synergise well with it. mf gear gives you rewards but then robs you of your ability to use those rewards. the only way to fix mf in this game is to either remove quant or bring it back to rare items. locking us into a set of unique gear, its basically having set items, ggg hate set items but they love mf gear, and yet their implementation of mf gear in this game works like set items, and its essentially 1 set for the entire game which is the worst possible implementation of set items. its something ive been meaning to make a post about for so long but its just finding the motivation lol. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

MF gear is okay but right now it's just too strong and highlights a problem with multiplicative effects working with eachother, producing an absolutely explosive concoction that's impossible to balance. This happens not only with MF, but also with damage in the game (base damage being in thousands is shooting to billions after all multipliers are applied) or health of essence monsters if they stack with wisps, tormented spirits or red beast affixes. They become stronger than uber bosses which is also ridiculous.
We're very much in "all or nothing" terriroty whether it's not worth it to just replace your boots with Goldwyrm to give some MF boost, you either buy a full set of MF gear or don't use any MF gear at all. I think a good approach would be to axe item quantity from the game completely (at least from player gear, it can stay on mapmods and atlas) and rework item rarity for it to affect everything - such as finding rare divination cards more often with high item rarity. If you pack a lot of rarity you'll going to see less crap like rain of chaos and more stuff like lingering remnants or the patient or whatever. Essentially converting a very low tier trop into a higher tier drop, instead of dropping seven instances of very low tier drop and one instance of high tier drop. |
|
" would you make rarity effect currency? i think they are doing something similar for poe2 right? i forge tthe details exactly but theres no quant in poe2. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
