Insane Latency Spikes and Game Crashes since 3.23
Same here, this is completely unplayable right now. The least you could do is tell the community what the problem is and when you intend to fix it.
Nice league tho, I wish I could play it |

I'm seriously thinking about getting back to playing other games. these problems are absolutely unacceptable. It's been over a month and nothing has been done about it or even mentioned that the problem is being taken care of. It's good that the new season of Diablo is starting soon...
very unusual for ggg to do nothing at all. |

:/ bump, same for me

Came back from a break and what can I say?
It's a mess, just unplayable. |

This has been happening for a week now ( For me atleast ). Tonight its so bad its unplayable. Guess i wont be playing till this issue has been resolved. Hopefully they will give us some feedback on the issue sooner rather then later.

same problem for me. in campaign it was annoying but at least you could create a new instance to make it work properly again. if it happens to a map, the map is simply lost. how is it even possible that this has not been fixed after WEEKS? it's not a minor problem, it's absolutely gamebreaking!

Since the situation is also really pissing me off, I've been observing the whole thing for the past two weeks. I want to point out that I am not employed by GGG, nor do I know their contracts or server architectures, so I'm just expressing a suspicion. Here are my assumptions:
It's not a general problem but only affects defective instances. Since each instance gets its own IP and new routing, I assume that the instances are created in a decentralized manner. This means that every time a player enters a new area, a small mini-world is created for that player that doesn't necessarily have to be in the same cluster as the other instances or the management, login, and database servers. The problem occurs more frequently when the player peak is particularly high, using Steam numbers as a reference. This league has a larger and more sustained influx of players than the last 3 leagues, for reference. GGG is not responding, which usually means they are aware of the cause of the problem but a solution is simply not possible. Communication in the past and general experience from software development also serve as a reference here. My suspicion: I suspect the problem is related to the contracts between GGG and its service hosts. Presumably, for cost reasons, there is only a certain quota of powerful hardware. If this is exhausted, the instances are created on backup hardware, similar to various mobile contracts when the data volume is used up and the connection is throttled. You still have internet, but it's painfully slow. GGG's hosting contracts could work similarly. If a certain potential of performance is exhausted, the remaining instances are created on servers with significantly less power, poorer routing, or weaker connectivity. The result is a lag fest instead of using a queue or longer loading times until a "potent" instance is available. If my theories are correct (and I can't imagine another explanation), GGG will simply wait out the problem until the player numbers naturally decrease (as in every season) because purely financial interests are at stake here. I don't know what to make of it. I've lost so many maps that playing has become a real challenge, and I have no desire to spend money anymore. Also, I'm afraid that the upcoming leagues won't look much better. Because of money. Last edited by PotaHari#4296 on Jan 6, 2024, 4:57:32 PM

Not sure if I should post it here or create a new thread since I've read through few with similar issues but haven't found THE EXACT one.
It's started somewhen about 2-4 weeks ago (don't have any proof, just a gut feeling). Sometimes game just completely freezes for 13-20 seconds with latency skyrocketing from 23-26 ms to approx 13-20000 ms. Often it comes in batches, 3-8 freeze waves 5-30 seconds apart. Doesn't matter if it's new map, cleared map, hideout, town or campaign area. Obviously, in maps it's an inevitable death unless you exit the game immediately. Until level 90 it was annoying but you can fight through it. Now, when 10% penalty becomes really painful, along with losing portals when logging out, it just makes me quit the game for a day. I tried to understand the pattern. I tested my connection: I'm looking at this issue in the game right now as I'm writing this, with WinMTR and ping to server's IP going in the background with no issues whatsoever - 0% losses in MTR, ping never goes higher than 50 ms with no packets lost. Here's ping during one of the freezes: Ping statistics for 172.255.8.116: Packets: Sent = 807, Received = 807, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 26ms, Maximum = 57ms, Average = 26ms I contacted my ISP and got a confirmation that my connection is fine. It's no new map, no type of monster, no boss, there's just no pattern I can catch. Video drivers are updated, PC is about 7-8 months old. Cannot answer if there's any issue with any other game since I rarely play anything else. Any help would be really appreciated :) I did benchmark test, no overheating or anything there. Throw all your bullets in a fire.. and run like hell! ©
