Characters sent to void league on death should NOT be a map mod

People seem to be avoiding the real issue here (imo, of course): the future of PoE (non-HC).

What does this spell for new content? Valdo void mod as it stands is really not a problem...for most. Its a choice map to run, you get warned (kinda), etc.

BUT

It opens the doors for GGG. We know historically, that once a new mechanic is introduced it can and probably will be expanded upon or reach its tentacles into other aspects of the game. Perhaps the next thing we see is "UBER uber bosses" where you can spend an atlas point to make bosses lvl 90, and if you die you get sent to the void. but if you win, you get a guaranteed blahblah. Perhaps we see the void threat even coming into the very highest points of league content, limiting the absolute best outcomes to those willing to brave the void. I don't play HC for a reason...

This is not a "tinfoil hat" scenario imo. This is the natural course of development when something like this comes out and isn't squashed (a la harvest). I think we can't discuss the current valdo without discussing what it could potentially lead to, even if that remains speculation.

Slippery slopes are a real thing. Its the reason PoE is in the state its in now, and its the reason for almost every problematic thing EVER in the history of the game.

That is why the "slippery slope" argument keeps coming up.

We want to be able to trust that GGG acts in a smart and planned way....but that is less and less likely in modern PoE.

Please don't say 'we' you don't speak for anyone but yourself tyvm

I'm pretty sure everyone wants to trust GGG....you wouldn't really be playing the game if you didn't

That's not what you said tho. You said "we want to be able to trust GGG to act in smart and planned ways" which is not the same as saying "we want to trust GGG" those are completely different sentences.

There is literally no reason why they'd make something like a 'voided' mod a thing outside of highly aspirational, optional content like Valdo maps. If you have any evidence of that please share it with everyone so we can evaluate it.

Literal ones, sure. Figurative ones, not so much. Slippery slope isn't an argument, it's a vaguely argument-shaped cloud of fearmongering.

It's their game. They are in complete control of it. They don't need the door opened for them.

Yes, it's possible they could implement more permadeath in standard leagues. It's possible they could make all death permanent. It's possible they could replace all the skill gems with frogs you have to catch in a kart-racing minigame. Anything is possible, and always has been, since the game's inception.

Excellent points, and totally true! What I said was wrong.

Doesn't really change my fundamental worries though. I love this game, I also HATE HC because I would never ever play a game with permadeath; its just not my thing. I wholeheartedly recognize that its current form is 100% optional and unobtrusive. But the sheer fact that GGG created this as an option and it exists in a non-HC game mode is worrisome.

It is also valid to say that I have no proof that any of my fears will come to pass. That is what makes them "fears". GGG has NOT spread this mod anywhere else. It has only existed for a short time.

But I also played through AN. I played through the ex/div switch. I played through the drop rate "fix". I played through these times where GGG did some pretty extreme things and it colors my expectations of the future of the game. I can see this Valdo "optional" content being the test run for something they might want to use more and more as we move forward. And I don't like that, and that's why I commented. And that's also why I think it's important to talk about the repercussions and down-the-road possibilities BEFORE they happen because once they do happen....its generally too late.

You can do that but be aware that you put yourself into the group of people who speculate about "shadow nerfs" because they ran 10 maps and had less loot explosions than they had in their previous batch.

Discussing hypotheticals can be interesting as long as they're not used as a tool to argue why a certain thing should never be a thing. I think it's a dishonest argument. Instead of arguing "I dont like voided being a modifier in optional, specially labeled T17 content" you are saying "I wouldnt like it if they added that to the base game" which is a different conversation. That is moving the goalpost at worst and pivoting at best

Completely agree. this is a silly and unfun mod, probably only here for some edgelords that will have "GiT gUd" chiseled on their graves. Wish they didn't cave in to the monobraincell crowd.
