Those of you who are worried that PoE2 is straying too far from its roots...
" Too much wild assumptions, and just like what suszterpatt already mentioned, they're two separate games to cater for different people I sincerely wonder why all the frustration, and I'd like to assume GGG won't give up development for PoE1 (This thing probably still generates them money) "For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. That which we are, we are; one equal strength of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Ulysses, Tennyson

" They already confirmed that PoE1 will be getting new seasons just like before. Maybe they should emphasize that more so people don't go on unnecessary rants like much of what this thread consists of, but they addressed it before It's not like PoE1 was doing poorly with the skeleton crew maintaining new seasons The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

" Why would they do that when PoE 2 has the majority of players?
" Well, guess we'll see how the player numbers are when PoE2 finally releases. Until then I don't think it's safe to assume it would (Same goes to say if it wouldn't) - point being, game isn't out yet and that's just hearsay "For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. That which we are, we are; one equal strength of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Ulysses, Tennyson

" Your circular logic makes no sense. Why should a company not use their existing Twitch or Twitter channel to advertise their game. It's not like they made an ARPG and now suddenly make a City Builder game (looking at you, Crate Entertainment) And no, suzterpatt is not wrong. You are just going on tangents while being extremely circular and uncharitable to 'opposing' party. " The servers for Guild Wars 1 are still running, 11 years after its successor launched. Your point? The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge. Last edited by ArtCrusade on Dec 3, 2023, 11:15:01 AM

" Because the games are different with different target audiences, you answered your own question and proved my point. There's no circular logic. They're doing it because they want to attract Path of Exile players to Path of Exile 2, suszterpatt stated that this isn't the case. Are the resources split 50/50 for Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2? Because that's what he said. I don't get why you're coming up with completely irrelevant arguments.
" Because that's how game development works. Having two games means people who only have one job - like artists, modelers, sound guys, and such - have a more steady workflow. No crunch-and-drought, where those guys are overworked to shit half the time and then left sitting on their hands doing dick-all for the other half of the time because there's no call for their specific job at that stage of development. Those guys can shift between the two games based on the needs of each game, which means we get more total productivity out of them and better support for both games, since Grinding Gear can hire people knowing they're not gonna be paying them for nothing half the time and can make better staffing decisions. There's also the fact that many assets are shared between the two games. They revealed during ExileCon the Second that many assets originally created for Path of Exile 2 ended up filtering down into PoE1, which we've already seen with the PoE2 tileset maps in endgame. Work on PoE2 isn't necessarily not work on PoE1. Even the "50/50" thing is really underselling how this works. Adding a second game in the same engine with shared assets is a lot less than double the workload - at least, once the second game's done being built. Hell, Path the First just benefitted from a bunch of engine improvements they had to make in order to make the Mercenary function in PoE2; the Merc exposed a bunch of jank they hadn't noticed and now that jank is gone. This isn't a case of bigger or smaller slices of a fixed pie. The second game gives Grinding Gear better task management and workflow. They wouldn't be building the second game if they didn't feel up to the task of maintaining both of them. Might that change at some point in the future due to unforeseen and unforeseeable - no matter how much people claim to be Nopestradamus - changes in the situation? Sure. Hell, the original plan was we'd already have PoE2 by now but then everything changed when the Beer Virus attacked. Moral of the story: chill. Path the First will be fine. It will only do 'poorly' in comparison to PoE2 because PoE2 is a new game built by one of the best ARPG teams on the planet with over a decade of experience in building and running a game, where PoE1 was built by a team that had no idea what it was doing and had to figure it out as they went with effectively zero experience in the field. If you don't think that is going to result in a quantum leap of quality, playability, and general badassery between the two games I don't know what to tell ya.
I like the slower nature of POE 2 but that is also the only thing that resembles oldschool POE 1. All the rest I dislike. And playing slower I can do in current poe as well, the rest I can not avoid:
-> WASD-movement -> Dodge roll -> Dark Souls bosses -> Die at boss and you completely need to redo it. -> Diablo gold currency -> No crafting bench -> Machine guns and grenade launchers -> Your old items are gone Many players supported to have a POE 2 which would offer more of the same oldschool PO1-goodness: new areas, new skills, new ascendancies. An extension to the current game. But we will get a different game now and it is for the best they split it up. Don't be so sure that 90% will flock to poe 2. Heart of Purity
