POE1 vs POE2

Keeping POE1 alive besides the new game is something we have seen before. Other games have tried this, and it almost always resulted in gradually reduction of support at various speeds. Ending up sometimes in patchless maintenance mode games.

Also I think it is not fair towards players having invested large amounts of time, and money in this because of this reason, and POE having always said it would be one game and your characters and items (this only concerns "Standard ofc.") will be available in the new game.

Is GGG not afraid of loosing these players?
Does GGG not realise its partly because of these players they have the budget for this?
How hard would it be for them to have a Standard on POE2 with also characters and items copied over? They could still have POE1 exist in tandem. But we all know in the end they will focus their resources on only one of the games, incurring even more frustration given the pledge to maintain POE1 right now. That simply can't last forever and is going to result in more disapointment.

In the end the situation depends completely on popularity of PoE1 vs PoE2.

If PoE1 will keep only tiny fraction of it players when compared to PoE2, then yes I can imagine it eventually it might get maintenance moded. From business perspective it will be right decision.

On the other hand, if PoE1 still makes money, then I do not see any reason to stop it development. Everquest 1 is still receiving expansions if I remember correctly.

From Standard perspective PoE2 was anyway going to ruin existing characters and items. With the split, Standard players can at least still enjoy using them.

The rationale for splitting POE 1 and POE2 makes sense. After watching all of the livestreams I thought generally all of the graphics, animations, story elements, sound design, and systems looked very good.

I only had 2 concerns.
The first relates to game depth, which is a huge advantage for POE over other ARPGs. In 2019 when it was announced they would be the same game I thought it was genius to keep that depth of content advantage. With them being separate games I expect that depth to be slightly diminished in POE2. However, GGG surprises me every season with the amount of content they are able to add to the game so I have high expectations that the majority of the depth of POE1 will be present in POE2 at launch, and with the amount of items they are trying to keep in sync / useable across both games I don't think I will be disappointed.

The bigger concern I have is around the crafting system. I am by no means an end game crafter, but I do craft most of my gear with the crafting bench, currencies, and essences. I have never even used fossils, and use harvest just for swapping resists. This is enough for me to craft gear that will progress me all the way to end game without trading for everything.
In the demos with the announcements that alterations and scourings go away and chaos are now changed I am worried that this avenue to feeling a sense of progression by working on my gear or a good base I found over time will be a thing of the past - It will feel bad trashing a good base. The new chaos orb is a good example as it randomly changes one affix to another random affix. They described the intent as wanting people to be able to pickup and potentially use almost perfect items, and chaos right now will just turn it into a random piece of potential garbage or perfection. However, almost perfect gear is definitely picked up and used right now. I do this an annulment orb hoping to remove the bad affix, but then I can deterministically add an effect I want at the crafting bench, or hit it with an exalt if I want a random new affix. The new chaos just feels worse to me at this moment. I think POE1 crafting system is something that really sets it apart with the amount of agency I have and trade-offs I can make. I hope we do retain that agency and progression avenue POE2.

Overall though looking forward to POE2 and will definitely be playing it.
Even Baldurs Gate 2 allowed you to import youir Baldurs Gate 1 characters...

If it will have standard, and that will be inflated anyway after a couple of leagues, i don't see why they could not at least let us reincarnate something over. A subset of items, a selection of 3 characters, but with adjustments like now also we get reset skill trees.

Just resetting everything after communicating it differently for a very long time, is just like a big middle finger. No concession at all!
I get that some things are not compatible, however some things WILL be. Their current stance sounds to me like "We don't care and we are not going to make any effort for the playerbase that funded the new game" Which is disrespectful to say the least.

I never ran a zoom zoom build and yet I feel close to zero attraction to poe2 after this exilecon, sadly.

How can I be invested in a game I don't care about, like at all?

Especially knowing that the game I spent the last 11 years playing will just.. die, killed off by its grotesque offspring wearing a Venice Carnival costume and mask while underneath it all having lurking an ungodly diablo2/ ruthless hybrid no less.

Yes it is very sad.

Not calling it POE2 but some spinoff like Tales of the Wrae-coast would have given me more confidence in the promises the Directors made on-stage to keep dedicated to POE1, i have heard that promise countless times from many game companies, and they always turned out to be lies.

I was about to buy another supporter pack, like i have been doing occasionally over the past 11 years, however this news killed this desire to support them completely. Also to play... whats the point, somebody will press DEL on it eventually. GGG had the chance to be different, they where for some time, but got corrupted.

Was it Tencent that used a Vaal Orb on GGG and bricked them? They will probably not tell us.
