Fossil crafting for more +Gem question

Oh good to know that Fossil and Essence will over-write "prefix cannot". So once I get the 3 prefix I want, I put "previx cannot be changed" in suffix. And then I just use Exalted or Veiled to fill the last 3 spots? ugh. the process seems very complicated.

Maybe easier to just go for 5 mods with two suffixes (craft up to 3 suffix).

There are a few ways depending on the item and the modifiers but for a lot of items the 4th and 5th modifiers are 'prefix/suffix cannot' and harvest reforge or veiled chaos / Aisling's veiled with the 6th mod being a benchcraft.

Fractured items are pretty common as well and are used for the 1st or 4th modifier on an item.

'Can have up to 3 crafted mods' is probably the most commonly used one because it is cheap and 100% guaranteed.

Going for 6 actual modifiers is generally a bad idea and not worth it unless you know what you're doing and have no problem throwing a couple hundred divines at an item. These items aren't needed either. Items with 4-5 solid modifiers are good enough on most builds to trivialize the entire game.

Also yes, crafting is fairly complicated and often becomes more complex for more expensive items but it can be very rewarding. The RNG on lower budget items isn't as bad, either.

I thought Harvest was the easiest way since people told me to take harvest passives if I want to craft.

Harvest can be great but it isn't the answer to everything. I personally dislike farming harvest quite a bit and prefer to just buy juice if I need it since other atlas strategies are more comfortable, fun and rewarding to me.

One last question. Let's say I somehow get the 3 Prefix I want and I have an open spot to put "prefix cannot". Then I use Scouring to get rid of the remaining Suffix right?

And then I spam Harvest "reforge more Critical" and Scourging until I get what I want? Or after I use Harvest reforge more Critical, the "Prefix cannot be changed" is gone? I have to pay another 2 Divine orbs?

The reason I ask is that the suffix I want are not from crafting Bench. :(
Scouring will remove "prefix cannot" since this craft occupies a suffix slot.

However, that does not matter. You can directly use "reforge crit" without scouring first as long as "prefix cannot" is on the item. Do note that all harvest reforges have a small chance of filling up all remaining affix slots.

I'd highly recommend you going over to www.craftofexile.com first before crafting and playing around in the emulator a bit with this specific craft just to get a bit of an idea.
Using divines to craft can be intimidating at first especially if you do not have too much currency to begin with.

Additional info 1: "reforge more" does not exist anymore. The current craft guarantees one mod of a specific type and otherwise works like a chaos orb.
Spoiler

Additional info 2: I assume you're trying to add the "chance to gain a power charge + crit multi" shaper mod to your bow. This is probably a bad idea because of other available modifiers and their weighting since the T1 modifier only has a chance of 1:30 (or avg. 60 divs). Two possible alternatives for power charge generation for your build are Hydrosphere + Power Charge on Crit support or a Manaforged Arrows setup with Power Charge on Crit.

Thanks for the clear instruction! Did you just craft that and took a picture? Wow.

Okay, so once I have the 3 prefixes I want, I can use "prefix cannot be changed" and use Harvest to reforge either Critical or Speed. The mod I want is actually Double Damage.

Do I have to use Deafening Essence of Dread? I see that Shrieking Essence of Dread also gives +2 Socket Bow.

I played with my bow and I got:

+2 Socket prefix
+20% more socketed prefix
Gain 20% Physical damage as Extra Cold (tier 1) prefix
Attack Speed / 5% chance of double damage suffix.

Too bad my Elemental Hit has no physical damage. :( Do I take my chance to Annul Gain 20% Physical damage as Extra Cold? What should I do now? I think this bow is great if it's for another skill?

I really like chance for Double Damage. If I use a Veiled Exalted from syndicate and I already have Shaper's Attack Speed / Chance for double, I will not see that Veiled mod right? That means adding a Veil may be a bad idea?

I am afraid to change now. lol don't know when I will see another 20% more socketed damage.

I used the website just to show stuff quickly.

Double damage is a veiled modifier that isn't too rare. You can roll that one by using "prefixes cannot" + veiled chaos orb but before unveiling you'd benchcraft something to prevent some options. The chance of hitting this isn't too bad but still would require a few tries.

Shrieking works in this case.

This is pretty much a perfect scenario for a suffix then because now you can craft "cannot roll attack mods" and use an annul. The annul is affected by this modifier. Meaning you can only annul off the "gain %phys as cold" or the "cannot roll attack mods" itself. Your 3 desired mods are fully protected and can never be removed by annuling (scouring does NOT work) as long as "cannot roll attack mods" is on the item.

After that you're able to endlessly try for +1 socketed gems by exalting & annuling since "cannot roll attack mods" prevents everything else. Just make sure that "cannot roll attack mods" stays on the bow.

Feel free to pm me ingame (@Narix) if you need help with this. :)

Interestingly enough the shaper's "attack speed / double damage" is considered an attack speed modifier and does not block the veiled double damage modifier. However, adding a veiled modifier through Aisling is the only method and this can remove the shaper modifier.

Man, this game is so complicated. So I put Cannot roll Attack on my new Bow and when I annul, it cannot annul an "attack modifier" right? I just need to remember now to use Scouring! lol

Once I get the desired modifier (it doesn't have to be +1 socket. I am happy with tier 1 Elemental Attack or Penetration at this point), I then have 4 mods that I want.

Then I add a Veiled for 5th and then use Crafting bench to get 6th right?

How do I block so I have higher chance to get another Double Damage mod from Veil? I see Veil has many +Physical/Bleed/Blind which I do not want. I don't deal physical damage at all.
