How is this game playable in melee?

" Thanks for your response. We have wildly different skill trees and item builds though. The issue is I've attempted to min-max based on PoE's previous nerfs. When my build's so heavily pigeonholed and each piece of gear's so heavily dependant on the others AND the skill tree... even small nerfs can mean a redesign of the chunks of, if not the majority of the build. I think specifically, I used a several passives you didn't. Many of which were redesigned to remove damage increases or mana reservation buffs. I am happy to hear your build survived though. I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.

If you have: immunity to all elemental ailments 7500 hp - 2500 ES 90% phys dmg reduction 75% block chance 100% curse effect reduction immunity to all 50 different slow debuffs 150% movement speed among other things, and sometimes you will get destroyed anyway | |
I just want to play double strike and poe ninja lists double strike's dmg at under 800k listed. Meaning nobody has hit even 1m.
Also some melee skills are lazy. duel strike essentially is viper strike without the animation. & duel strike sounds horrible as if metal is hitting metal. hate that sound. then you have wildstrike which has not good dps & more lazy animation gems similar to how reave has nearly zero visual. then you have melee gems that don't even seem like melee at all. Similar to how FrostBlades and Lightning strike may as well be bow or spells gems. I just quit playing frost blades yesterday, as it felt too similar to a bow skill. same with lightning strike, may as well be ice shot and lightning arrow. & lastly I don't understand why you players find " autobombers " entertaining at all, ever. no other mmo has walking simulator skills and non the most played wth. autobombing isn't a good feature and never is. so just remove autobombers and the devs should have never featured autobombing as a playstyle or entertained autobombers ever I didn't like Lost Ark's p2w model, questing zones were meh, nor did I believe Lost Ark's 8 skill tabs were enough skills to use for longterm pvp experiences. Yet Lost Ark did one thing right & that the skills that they did have, even if too few, all were good at reacting melee hits, punch hits that had gravity to them. & made your hero get knocked around. So learn from Lost Ark's melee skills & knockdown & knock air system. Where's the monk 8 fist hit combos for POE? Where's the mobs that are built for 1vs1 skill gems, that don't need to be just bosses for 1vs1's? Why was the game so heavily about AOE for all 10 years? Why aren't their more reasons to use 2 melee skills together? I suppose this is what POE2 is trying to figure. Till then why don't they just freaking buff all the damn melee gems that aren't hitting a 1m listing around day 4 of a league, when most spells & traps are at 4m-90m listed? Yet you have double strike with 600k list? Isn't equality that obvious. As for slam skills, they are way too oversimplified. I'd rather prefer a slice and slash skill over a slam skill. At least slice and slash seems as if you're multi hitting mobs. Slams just seem like something a kid twice younger than you would be able to perform. Way to easy. Smack the ground, kill mobs meh. Melee should have more multihit gems with multihit animations & not just one mega strong hit for the ground for str stackers. >.> Reason I'm not super hyped about Boneshatter builds. It's just your average hit the ground for some stun visual. The perfect ARPG would have POE's art department, with POE's music, POE's D2 map style which is better than Lost Arks map, and POE's skill tree. With Lost Ark's pvp knockdown knockair pvp animations, where heroes have to restand again. Then have a bigger skill tab that most these mmorpg's which neither game, nor new mmo's have. It's like we went from Vanilla WoW 2006 of a 12 tab skill tree with a lil hotbar for a total of 14 skills and over the coarse of 17 years?!?!? They've added what ZERO more skills to our hotbars. wth is going on. Even Blue Protocol is going to have smaller skill bars of 8, worst than what Vanilla WoW had. It's like their dumbing down the amount of skills you're able to use as mmorpg'er player gets older. Lost Ark had 8 out of 15 skills total, meh. POE's opportunity would be to have lategame skills added that only work after lvl 60, or after lvl 80 for those who want to piano skills. & I know POE is modeled after D2, yet most D2 players played WoW, so they HAVE to fixate for that. Not just ignore that fact as if most D2'ers didn't play WoW and a boat ton of other mmo's after D2. Was even playing Ragnarok Online & Maplestory around D2 days anyways. The mmorpg industry is almost lead by those who've never ran the marathon of mmo's. & to those who say go play D4, well D4 isn't made by D2's team, it's made by Diablo Immortals team & looks as if it's a Korean grinder. So no it's not anything worth mentioning. The short version: of all this is to have the devs play Lost Arks Pvp Arena for 100 Arena attempts, then remodel some melee skills off how the gravity of how those melee skills hit. 100 people towns with hang out fields. Witcher taverns. Free hair style options. " Lightning Strike can be considered ranged as much as you like, as it doesn't require you to even hit with your weapon before procing the ranged effect. But I disagree about Frostblades, as it actually requires you to hit an enemy before it procs the secondary effect (icy blades). No more "ranged" than Wild Strike? Anyhow, I wish more skills were like Frostblades, with cool, useful secondary effects upon hitting an enemy. On topic: Some people in here are claiming that "melee is fine". And by all means, it is "fine" - just far from "more than fine". And is "fine" enough for you to be happy about your choice of going melee, when so many other archetypes are "more than fine" and have been for a very long time? If we take the five pillars of PoE into account: Clearspeed, bossing, survivability, leveling and cost effectiveness, melee as a whole falls WAY behind other archetypes. Of course, if you judge melee based on other, personal, subjective measurements, the chance of it being "fine" increases, I guess. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Yet neither act melee enough. " Slam the ground for range projectiles " simply isn't melee, isn't entertaining for a melee person. At the end of the day, you're watching projectiles with very little melee gravity to the first swing. Heck you have frost blade youtubers right now using Vengeant Cascade, that's as range as you can get. So obviously melee on hit isn't melee enough, if projectiles shoot the whole screen & return to sender. I suppose the lesson for every game dev outside of POE, is that if you build a game around 100% aoe with barely any 1vs1 for mob fights, then you negate melee as a reason to exist. Yet maybe AOE isn't a impossible issue, if the animation strikes twice, isn't about projectiles at all, & isn't about mundane slams either. The dev team should have figured out that dodge mechanics for mobs were suppose to be more important, than just having everyone needing some Profane Bloom type effect to hit the screen.
