The self cast setup for the spell does more damage, so you technically wouldn't be losing much viability. You would just be losing speed. You would probably also die more due to not being moving constantly.

It really isn't a big deal to have both setups. You just hold down cyclone and then if something doesn't die in a few seconds you can push 'x' to swap and then it dies. This build has like 2 buttons even with the swap. 3 if you count blinking.
