If you're interested in crafting odds there is Craft to Exile web site for that. Not sure if it is up to date, but it is the best tool we have for crafting simulations.
Path of Exile is a Casino for gambling addicts.
Gambling is not fun nor a game mechanic...
Jeweler orbs odds: 4 socket around 10 orbs, 5 socket around 60 orbs, 6 socket around 300 orbs.
POE2 should be the ruthless vision experience and POE1 should be the zoom power fantasy sandbox to capture both audiences.
I petition to return all the fun stuff that was removed or nerfed over the years back into POE1.
Free advice - sooner or later you'll run into a corrupted or scourged armor you really like but has the wrong colors. Or rather having six off-color sockets is often optimal. So go and buy tainted chromes while scourge still lasts, if you like playing standard.

your best bet is to actually get 3-4 of the off colors than do vorici 1-6 white sockets and hope, or start with a heist enchant of "no sockets of the main stat color"

There was some trick you could use for 4S items where you'd add and remove sockets with the recipe, the ones already on the item didn't get rerolled so you'd effectively roll them one at a time, which can be more cost-effective if you need 3-4 off colors. Haven't checked if it still works.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

What the above post refers to is very simple. Let's say you want to get a 4S item that's purely going to use off-colour sockets:

1. Use the bench to craft e.g. 2 or 3 sockets
2. Use the bench to colour e.g. 2 or 3 sockets, e.g. 2G+1B, 3G, etc.
3. Once you've got the 3 desired socket colours on your 3-socket item, use the bench to craft the 4th socket
4. Reroll 3-4 socket until you hit your desired color on the 4th socket

This can also be done to get a 6s item, but of course it's going to take a lot more jeweller's and chroms.

Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.

i don't have the recipes yet

If you don't have them you probably don't need them yet. Getting your desired socket links vs desired stats is something you have to weigh when first leveling a character. It sucks, but sometimes you have to use a crap item with correct sockets until you're higher level and have decent amounts of currency.

This is actually a really good thing to put in the Chromatic Orb description, or at the very least in the Help Panel. As far as I know right now, there is no where in the game that says an item's attributes will affect how its socket colors are changed.

It is kind of intuitive though, since most strength based character are probably going to be using a lot of red gems, so you'd naturally want those items to roll red a lot.
