So, RF totems (regardless of level) are like a 1 second burst of RF using your own life as the damage amount? That's pretty powerful; the damage won't be 40% reduced because it's Damage Over Time.
What happens if you have increased burning damage (eg: from searing touch). Obviously the enemies will burn for more, but does the totem? It sounds like it won't, since the buff is based on its own stats (without bonus burning damage). That sounds really powerful. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

" Eh, not so sure about that. It'd take a Kaom's to make it powerful, but right now you could get something like 5k life without Kaom's, which is a base 2500 dps. You can increase that with burn damage increases, but it does appear that they burn faster with increased player burning damage. You'd need a massive amount of cast speed to compensate (as outlined in the OP). You can also double curse (flammability and eleweak), but it's no stronger a burn than what you'd get out of a much weaker fireball/fire trap/explosive arrow/burning arrow + eleprolif build. On top of all that, the playstyle is just weird as hell. It's fun, but you have to constantly lead enemies a second+ ahead (to account for casting the totem and then the totem casting RF). You can't stop enemies at all, so you tend to get mobbed (which actually makes focusing on player life very attractive). You want all the aoe you can get, but there's really just not that much on the tree, and Divinarius's aren't good for the build. |

" Base 2500 DoT dps in an area is ok for no mana cost. It's about 5 times more than the dps of Searing bond or poison arrow. With vulnerability alone (and no burning damage increase) that's 3500 dps. With burning damage increases it could be 7000+ if your cast speed could cope. With Kaom's the DPS would be insane. Also, since it costs nothing, you could wear haste, purity and vitality (plus extras?) without really caring about mana regen or anything. And, end-game aside, it might provide a reasonably fast way to level up a character who is just spamming life nodes at the start. (After lvl 31 of course.) " Oh. That makes it significantly worse. I was playing around with this and increased burning definitely shortened the life of the totem. It's amazing to me that RF totems burn enemies proportional to your life total, that seems really powerful.
Also, it might be obvious but Righteous Fire Totems are free to cast since RF costs 0 mana. |
