Leagues dumping into standard is unhealthy for leagues

You seem to think that people are required to only play one character. What if I played twenty?

" Why not? Why should the value of a 3 month league affect players and characters from a 9 year old league? Simple math dictates that the current league is only 1/36th as important as standard league, and will further decline each new league. In more rational terms, standard can give new leagues some kind of grounding. I don't know if you were playing PoE when exalts were less than a few stacks of chaos, when a few GCPs had real value. The decline in value of items you talk about has been happening for a long time and has little to do with standard, and more to do with power creep and game balance. Conversely, there are a lot of items in league that are undervalued and become worth a lot more in standard. Why should your idea of what's important in the PoE league economy be valued over the gamut of other players playing priorities? I do respect you giving your honest opinion on this, but I disagree 100%. If you don't play league, why do you even bother converting items or currencies? Why not just either let them "rot in standard" or give them away? " People's loss of interest has NOTHING to do with prices in standard. It is usually for a few reasons. One, they have got a character as far as they want in the league. Two, they have obtained enough items/currency to sate their desire in a league. Three, they have explored the new league options as much as they want. Four, they haven't hit these goals, but progressing further is more frustrating than rewarding. Five, they are still hitting various goals but even new characters and builds feel like they are doing the same thing over and over - in short they are bored with PoE, and it will take some new game mechanics, some new skills, some new MTX, some new monsters etc to get them excited again. If standard had never existed, the drop off in leagues would occur even faster, and a lot of players would never come back to PoE. Piety's story http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2081910

i disagree with the idea its a bad thing. you talk about hardcore, people buying up items and ripping them to standard....
and? that creates demand which is healthy for an economy, that means things people find they can sell because theres a bigger market than there would otherwise be. standard effects leagues but i think the effect is beneficial, its more interesting and it adds value. you propose to remove value, in a loot game finding ways to make things have value is key, its a core requirement of the game, thats what makes looting fun. a large part of the genius of poe is how they have set up so many angles for value in things, so many markets, ways to make money, potential for items to be worth something to players. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

"I know that you're attached to this arbitrary idea of "the league's economic health". It makes you feel all warm and tingly inside for prices to do...uh...whatever it is you'd prefer they do. Get over that shit. People don't want their characters deleted. |

" This person thinks its BENEFICIAL to the economy to rip items to standard. Nobody who actually cares about the HC economy would think this way. Also, my entire post was only a teeny, tiny part about HC, apparently you didn't notice. Next. |

My opinion: This isn't a problem that needs to be solved. This isn't unhealthy for challenge leagues, nor is it unhealthy for Standard league. It's perfectly fine to be able to keep the characters and wealth gained during a challenge league. I haven't seen a proposed "solution" yet that isn't worse than what we currently have, which isn't bad at all.

" Wouldn't this make currency worthless towards end of the league when it came to trading? People that have OP gear wouldn't sell the gear because they can only take gear back with them. People that have mirrors might be able to mirror gear but would pay in other items and not currency as a fee? The only reason people would trade gear for currency is to hopefully use that currency to craft something with it. Would they gamble their item for currency in hopes to make better items with the time left? |
