After crashing can't close the program even through task manager.
Same thing has happened to me, about 5-6 times today. Any feedback we can give to help diagnose the crashes?

Same issue here.
If you try to kill the process via taskkill in commandline following error occurs: ERROR: The process "PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe" with PID 13224 could not be terminated. Reason: There is no running instance of the task. But it is still hung, even no chance to restart the computer, only hardware shutdown. Hope this information helps. |

I've been experiencing this same issue, I will get a prompt to end program and it won't kill the program. Then I'll bring up task manager and try to End Program through that, and same thing. I can still use my PC, like the movie I'm watching on my 2nd monitor is unaffected but I can't kill the crashed game. Inevitably I have to restart every time this happens. I even tried killing the program through cmd prompt like someone on reddit recommended but that didn't work either. Loving the league so far, but hopefully these crashes get ironed out soon once they do this could be the best league I've played.

So for now the only thing that has worked for me was switching from vulcan to Directx. The game will still crash but at least it can be closed, even though it feels way more unstable oddly enough.

Im having the same problem. Its extremelly annoying because I not only have to restart the PC but unplug it from the power plug because the computer cannot finish the process.
Its unacceptable that they missed such a harmful bug. So harmful that I though they will hotfix it today when I went to sleep yesterday after day 1, but I was wrong. Not to mention the countless timeouts to login screen. Ps: Im typing this while my game is frozen and Im too lazy right now to shut down the computer again. Just awesome =) Last edited by LawMerch#7567 on Jan 16, 2021, 7:43:10 PM

" Wow, that is simply stupid... While I agree the PoE played some role in this (it hanged!), this lingering process is Windows or steam bug. It is windows responsibility to keep tasklist updated and show only relevant information. Also, it is parent process responsibility (most likely steam in this case) to properly reap the child process (PathOfExile_x64Steam) after it exits or is killed (sorry for morbid terminology, but it is really called this way). Actually try to restart steam if the stuck process goes away. Following might help to terminate the program and avoid rebooting system (run from command prompt with admin rights): wmic process where name="PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe" call terminate "call delete" might help as well . However while the vmic has higher success rate than taskkill it still can fail :( Last edited by julus#1066 on Jan 16, 2021, 8:40:06 PM

Same problem.
This has been the worst launch in terms of performance I've played. Constant disconnects I changed servers to one I thought would be less populated and it seemed to help at least I don't crash on every town. But the process freezing is a serious issue and I can't know for sure but I think the freezing it's not a server issue. Restarting or turning off the computer from windows starts an infinite loop of windows trying to end the process. The only thing that helps is turning off the computer manually. And I just got a message from the Bios scanning the state of the Disk probably caused by the sudden shutdowns. This is not safe. I'm using: GG Launcher no steam. Windows mode Vulcan api Dynamic Culling Dynamic Resolution 8GB ram nvidia 1060gtx 3GB driver v.460.79 Hope something can be done about this. Julus said that this could be a steam or windows problem but why did it not happened on previous patches if so? :( Last edited by IJate#1211 on Jan 16, 2021, 9:51:48 PM

Getting the exact same game frozen and cannot close even using taskill or task manager. For whatever reason windows is suspending the poe.exe as a uwp process. no matter what you do, access is denied. Process not found when trying to kill it.
