Sorry, what I meant was a new account creates their first new character in standard not in the league. They play along for a month or two and the league ends. When the league ends the atlas is blanked out on them. If that person then plays their highest level map then they get somewhere in the atlas that approximates where they left off before the league ended.
The issue with that is that there already IS a mapping from old map to new map in place, they all get converted after all.
So if they WANTED to keep progress somewhat intact they would just have to apply that EXISTING conversion to the atlas completion.
It's really that simple but for some reason they don't do it. Cannot be that hard on the servers to compute this once for every account.
They just don't care about standard at all, it seems.
But that still doesn't solve the issue of the map conversion bug and the issue of someone paying a high currency for a high tier unique map, and then having it converted to a lower tier because they forgot to pull it out of their map tab before converting. Yes I know you get the warning about removing maps from the map tab that you don't want converted before you convert your maps...but it would just be a whole lot simpler if they would just leave it alone...because after all, there really is no good reason to change the map tiers every few months...
But again, thanks for the info you provided. It is most useful!
That's the BIG issue to me, too. Prime example: T14 highest tier Doryani's Machinarium (that allows getting awakening completion) was about 8 ex or so. Converting it makes it a t13 that cannot give awakening completion and is right now worth about 4 ex. That's a HUGE loss. It's even worse when considering the now highest tier (16) that's worth about 13.
Meh.
A long time ago they reasoned that you want to "craft" your Altas and set a simpler structure with only targeted maps so on league resets their idea of resetting the Atlas had some merit.
Sadly, since the Conquerors fiasco, they forgot to use common sense and implement the same solution as in the case of passive tree - without the addition of NEW NODES that impact your build, you DON'T HAVE TO TOUCH IT ON STANDARD, and are good to go.
They should have done that also for the Atlas. Instead of forcing us to ALWAYS run a damn corrupted T16 map they could simply add a damn button with RESET ATLAS.
It also makes more sense that way.
But at least they comprehended they need to keep the unique maps completion no matter the reworked tier.
They lack all common sense regarding consistency sadly...
PSS: Our almighty TencentGGG overlords are very scrupulous regarding criticizing their abilities to take proper decisions and consider everything "needlessly harsh and condescending"...
Good to know "free speech" doesn't apply in any form or manner on the forums these days...

Well that's good to know, because I've been playing the game off and on since 2013, and I never knew that. And it seems that some of the others that have posted in this thread were also unaware of that. Maybe it would be a good idea that every time GGG starts a new league, they remind people of that feature with a line in the patch notes, at the beginning of the notes, that states something to the effect: "play your highest map on standard before you convert your maps, your Atlas will update your progress, then convert your maps, and your progress will not be lost."
So thanks for that info. (Edit: I did that after reading your post and before this reply, and my progress was not lost when I converted my maps, so I am thankful to you for that info.)

Begs the question why you have to do it manually when the functionality is there. This should be done automatically or we should be given an option similar to passive tree reset. And, yes, "technology" is there to do so.
I have to chime in here and complain about it. I had no idea about this reset and literally just got half way through the atlas. I was very disappointed when I found out I had to restart from the beginning all of a sudden after spending time grinding out the maps. I was even more disappointed when I found out about running your highest tier map would catch you back up after I already converted all my maps to the new ones. I decided to just eat the loss and start grinding again and after a few maps I actually found a higher tier legacy map that I misplaced in another tab, but it only gave me back my unique map completions and nothing else.
Seriously, whatever this feature is supposed to accomplish, it's ridiculous. The only thing I can think of is maybe trying to get someone to quit Standard League and just go to Temp League out of frustration, but for me it demotivated me enough to play another game and only spend an hour or two here or there on PoE.
Like just give an obvious option or warning at the very least of what to do to keep progress so we can't mess it up. I was under the impression that this was a permanent league so progress would literally be permanent. Shuffling the maps itself seems great, but the way it was implemented felt very distasteful.

GGG please carefully read this excellent post. It is an excellent example of the bad state of affairs in standard and hardcore that the game is in. Please fix this.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

You shouldn't have updated all your maps. Since they started with the wipes you could always use an old one, finish it (magic, rare or corrupted as usual) and get all non-unique maps to that tier done automatically.
Maybe in the old atlas. But with the implementation of sirus you have to do one t16 from the old league and every t16 from the new league and vaal temple
And like one of those guys said in one of these topics see you in 3 months for the next topic. My opinion if they can save the uniques they can also save the normal maps. Maybe some additional coding for renaming the maps is requiered.

I don't play standard since the first time they lied to us after the first ever league, where they reset the passive tree like they said they'd never do again. I feel for you guys. This needs to fucking stop.

I was 149/154 and had to restart from 105 because i did two tier 14 maps before converting.
I am not gonna lie i was mad as fuk, mainly because i did not know that doing an old tier 16 before converting would have fixed the issue, i am still not happy about it, it took me like 2 hours to fix it, although in the end of the process i must confess i ended with a lot of loot, currency and finally managed to do vaal temple so i went to 150/154, but still if i had not have maps in the stash or if i had have to start from zero i think i would have rage quit.
So yes please a solution would be nice and i would remember the higher tier to lower tier conversion thing, although i am not sure how to fix it, even if i keep the old maps if i do run them they will not drop higher tier maps.
