Steelskin + Cast when damage taken Support

Hi guys, I searched the forums for this issue, but could not find any answer.

I was following a build that uses Steelskin lvl 16 + Cast When Damage Taken Support lvl 11. But it's not working for me. It says [Skill can't be used].

And I already checked everything! My Steelskin requires lvl 58 and my CWDT supports lvl 58 or lower. I do not have any other guardian skills and I have more than enough attributes for any gems requirements.

What am I doing wrong? Does anyone knows?

Anyway, thanks in advance.

And sorry for my poor english.

See ya

You can't manually use skills that are supported by a trigger. In this case, it will cast automatically when you take enough damage (so long as it isn't on cooldown).

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. It's not activating at all! I gets an exclamation mark on the skill! :(
The exclamation icon is normal when you support it, or anything else, with CWDT. Leave Steelskin on your toolbar and go out and let some mobs pound on you, and you'll see it go on cooldown when it triggers. It has a short duration, and depending on how much damage you're taking it often won't even last for the whole duration. It's a blink and you'll miss it trigger.

It will trigger based on the following conditions
- You take 1485 damage. This is cumulative reset each upon entering a new zone.
- CWDT triggers Steelskin. Steelskin is active for 1.5 seconds (increased duration affects this).
- Steelskin goes on a 3s CD.
- After the 4.5s (1.5 + 3) from the initial trigger (longer with increased duration) CWDT starts recording damage again.

The entire process is automated, and you can no longer manually use the skill. You could add a second Steelskin gem into your build and manually use that one, but as soon as you activate it CWDT will reset the damage counter to zero and not start recording until the CD has expired.

So your reply made me check the wiki, but I would have expected the gems to track damage and simply not trigger during their cooldown rather than not tracking damage at all. The wiki lists no reference for this. Have you done any testing regarding this mechanic or know of someone who has?

CWDT entry on the wiki states it. "When a linked spell is cast, it is put on cooldown for 250 ms and will not track damage during that time."

I can absolutely guarantee the .25s CD of CWDT does not overwrite a longer CD i.e. Steelskin. Anyone can test that by simply linking a spell with a CD to CWDT. If what I said is not correct then the only other alternative is:

- Take 1485 damage and trigger Steelskin
- CWDT goes on .25s CD
- Steelskin goes on 4.5s CD
- Once off CD CWDT starts calculating damage. Any trigger events are ignored until Steelskin is available.

Given that CWDT calculates damage for each linked gem separately, this convoluted method seems highly implausible.
When a triggered skill like Steelskin is on its own cooldown rather than just the CWDT cooldown, damage still isn't being tallied for it. This is fairly easily observable, and especially so with a high lvl CWDT setup.

People usually run very low lvl CWDT's though, which can make it seem like it's collecting damage while on cooldown since it will often trigger nearly instantly after it ends if in combat/taking damage. But that's just the result of significantly lower amounts of damage needed to trigger CWDT in the first place.

I specifically mentioned that I checked the wiki, and I was replying because there was no reference stated for this line. The wiki is not absolute, and it is not officially maintained by GGG (no matter how often I have asked for that). I find mistakes in the wiki on a regular basis, so while the possibility exists for this to be an existing but otherwise undocumented mechanic, I would like to be sure.

And @Aldonés, if I wanted to test it myself, I would not have asked if you know of anyone else who has already done that, would I?
