It's just more comfortable to be holding down only your index finger for long periods of time when moving around and fighting, plus it's muscle memory to just point and click. That's my reason for still using spacebar as my standstill key at least. Oh and the missing skillslot from binding move only, cause I need all I can get on my 5 enduring cries duelist.

Which is exactly why I use my 1 key as main attack. It's so much easier to do 11111 (or hold it) than to do left click + shift constantly. SO much easier.

well I have Flasks on my 1 key so that wouldnt be very useful.

oh wait .. that "Unnecessary amount of flask slots" thread from a while ago is yours too? http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/142282

between that thread and this one it appears your aim is trying to make this game easier to play. Let me guess, to remove confusion you have ended up with a single attack (bound to the 1 key) and a single Flask (bound to the 2 key)?

hahahaha

oh god i think im getting trolled here....
You only have to shift click when you are using melee attacks, if you want to stay in the same spot and use the attack. This is necessary for skills like Ground slam, Lightning Strike and Cleave. If shift is not held down while performing those attacks your character will constantly start moving towards the targetted mob after each attack animation. This is because this game has pathing and characters will go towards a mob to attack if the mob is out of range.

This only happens with melee skills/ melee AoEs. Projectiles or spells never make you path towards to mob regardless of whether or not you are holding down shift.

Like people have mentioned already, its how it is for ARPG games on the PC. Other RPG's allow you to select your target and then press the key bind corrosponding to the skill you wish to use. These games normally have a slower combat style (D&D games, some MMO's) where as ARPG's need you to move around the screen at a much higher pace due to the speed at which mobs engage you.

I like to explain things in metaphors so just think about the way we drive cars...been like that for 100 years and hasn't changed, because its the best set up for that type of vehicle, where as an aeroplane or boat, requires a different control system for the person to use. Eventually it becomes instinctive for the user, like many of us who played older ARPG's, we've got use to it and is now part of our motorpatterns. Hell, screw metaphors just look at other types of videogames (FPS, platform, strategy)
i never use shift for attks , i have all my main aoe attks on right mouse button so i never move when i attk just as if i was using shift. and for melee i use single target on left button so i need it then i want to move with the target. as for lightning strike or ground slam if you have them on right button then there is no need to use shift, you just target the ground in front of you and you don't move. works fine for me.
how to bound skills to 1-5? I would be very much interested in doing that.

This is absolutely false. You will path to be in range with any ranged attack.
