0.10.4b and 0.10.5 Patch Details

Also, we are probably looking at Reduced damage effectiveness of ~20-50% for both of these melee supports (like LMP/GMP and the range counterparts). This means that Physical builds will see a lot less effectiveness with these supports compared to Elemental builds due to the Armor formula. Each splashed/split hit gets mitigated even more by Armor, while Elemental damage doesn't suffer from this. If anything, I feel more should be done to bring up pure physical builds instead of boosting Elemental builds which are already far and away more powerful and popular than Phys builds.

It's a great addition but hope the devs will look into this or at least tweak the armor formula to bring Physical builds up to par with Elemental. Or I could be proven wrong and Splash has minimal damage reduction or armor penetration built in.
With the melee splash support gem, do "on hit" effects splash too? Like the infernal blow secondary effect or the viper strike poison effect for example! I was just wondering how the mechanics of this specific support gem worked.
You guys fucking rock!
Dual Strike + Multistrike...

Target explodes in a shower of juicy giblets?

I swear to God, all these "melee is underpowered" posts are from the retards trying to double strike/heavy strike 100% of the game. Stop being a baddie and use AoE skills, for fuck's sake.

Uh. Last time I checked GS and LS are RANGED abilities. The debate has been about melee's actually wanting to be melee's and not just another ranged build. At least with the two new support gems you have to be up close instead of over half a screen away to use them.

While the idea behind new melee support gems is fine, I'm not overly happy with them.

First because they are purely for offense--there are no blatant issues with offensive potential once a player can stay on a target.
Secondly, it is apparent that these support gems will not increase power of the supported skill but rather modify it. This is a trade off I'm not willing to do often, especially when it would be the splash gem because I already have a functioning AOE--cleave, ground slam or leap slam. Multistrike support gem is different as it is possible modified skill might hit same target if no other targets are available. How will this be handled in already high attack speeds is beyond my imagination at the moment. Also, this support gem should be reserved for 2H weapons only since 1H/DW is alraedy attacking at crazy speeds.

Whoa.. whoa.. whoa..

Take a minute to re-read his post. If you do this correctly, you will notice that he mentions that he uses Ground Slam.. plus 2 other melee AoE skills..

So what was the point in your response again??

Won't this make AoE melee skills like Cleave kind of useless?

I mean, considering you can just put on the splash gem on Heavy strike or Double strike and have something similar.

exactly what I'm thinking

Cleave still has the insane dual-wield bonus (effectively doubling ele damage).
It'll probably also have much larger range (can hit enemies at range 20+, while the melee splash gem requires you to be within 4-6 range of an enemy to generate the splash)
I'm glad for GGG that Daily Deals are a success, I really want you guys to have enough money to keep developing the game for a long time.

I'm also happy that you keep discussing internally about popular topics such as death penalty at high lvl (70+) and loot distribution. I really hope you guys are considering adding loot options (from D2-style FFA to instanced loot like in Hellgate/Mythos/TL2/D3) and make the death penalty less harsh against high lvl so that everyone is happy and having a great time playing PoE. I know the game is pretty hardcore but I believe the difficulty of the game alone is enough, it is the hardest ARPG afterall so an harsh exp penalty at high lvl is just overkill imo and makes many people quit over that (not me but it is hard on the moral/motivation).
Tech guy
that splash damage gem will get me to play marauder

I don't get it, why is every other poster saying things like [Groundslam/Whirling Blades/Cleave/Cyclone etc + Multistrike or Splash]? Which part of 'Works on Single Target Melee Attack' implies it will work with an AE attack?

Nice supports in any case, more options always good.

Whirling Blades does not have the AoE skill tag so it should work with multistrike and or splash. It only has movement, attack, melee tags. So if it doesnt work then whirling blades needs to be fixed to have aoe taga and benefit from aoe passive nodes.
