Why is there no auction house in POE?
" I think you have limited knowledge on "instance" or "client and server" structure. You are not wrong by that meaning but not right at same time. It's like a network of power grids. we can have a failure in a power grid but that doesn't cause the whole network shutting down. because physically, the network often has more than double capacity than the average max load. And utilizes the capacity by logical networking. (we even have other adjacent networks through the gates.) It makes a network almost immune to the overload "logically" (you are wrong at this point.) we got dozens of little to large failure here and there (you are right at this point) all year round but the average uptime doesn't go below 95% in most cases (largely depends on the local network infrastructure, machines and maintenance.) they simply put restrictions or rolling blackouts to a limited area before something serious happening thus we don't even realize. Edit: If it was causing much more than I explained, I guess it alerts the local network company rather than the datacenter or simply the gold miner would break up for the network loads or power/machine costs. " He very well describes inherent issues with ah. Which you mostly dismiss or throw some random idea at it, without actually thinking through consequences of this idea. Your post is full of personal opinions which you represent as facts or majority agreeing with it. Just in this short answer there more then one of some such examples. I am in like top 10 storm brands builds on Poe ninja right now. More then half of my gear is crafted by me. And yet you pull out some randomly m 80 percent out of thin air. IMHO the balance is perfectly fine, but yet again you take your opinion that is not and present it as a fact. P.s. And alot of glaring ah issues where not even brought up. Just to name a few. Extremely punishing to mispricing, I personally massively underpriced a lot more items that even attepmts to scam me. Current system you get spamed you know you messed up you have chance that fix. With ah that item is gone... To make it worse this happens alot more to new players. Ability to by out a single item, right now this is damn near impossible, with ah for 3 ex I can buy all goodrims for inthe market and sell them for 10c. And these are just a few. P.p.s. Majority of the issues people have with trade can be mitigated without ah and with much smaller changes. Last edited by Deathfairy on Jan 9, 2020, 12:24:06 PM

" Ok, i am in top 10 gladiator bow Hoag build in poeninja, half of my gear is self crafted/self found and i still think trading is way more awful than it should be. Which leave room to think, why we only crafted half of our gear and not all of it? Was it maybe because we used all our crafting currency(that we got by playing the game) and didn't bother to buy more because it's awful to do so? Let`s just think a little: 1- What`s the objective of trading in this game? Answer: Give value to all items, provide ways to choose your content(frags, scarabs, maps), provide ways to get crafted gear (there are so many different affixes in the game, that rolling the ones you need by yourself can be really challenging), get the crafting materials you need (what we call currency nowadays and fossils/essences). 2- Does trading makes so players gear too fast? Answer: Yes, to get your BIS items you will still require to grind for the raw currency to buy them, which takes time, but you can easily get good enough items really fast. 3- Does the current trade iteration successfully slow down gear progression? Answer: NO, it literally does nothing towards gear progression. Buying your good enough items is really fast and easy. 4- IF the current trade iteration does not slow gear progression, what is it actually achieving? Answer: It`s just frustrating everyone, even if it`s completely awful it`s still WAY faster than actually playing the game, so if you want to craft/access content you have to just gulp the shit down and pretend everything is fine, otherwise just give up about two major pillars of this game (crafting and endgame content). It also opens up room for a lot of market shenanigans(because the API is public and you can mess with it at your own wish). 5- So what can be done to slow down gear progression while keeping trade? Answer: As long trade exisits, there is literally no way to slow down gear progression. The ways to do so are making so gear can only be traded for gear, making gear untradable or increasing gear level requirement. The first two goes against the "all items must have value principle" so the only possible one would be the level requirement one. So, taking all this in consideration, there is no point in trading being awful if the restriction is not achieving it`s objective (slowing gear progression). Does the game needs a full blown AH? Not necessarily, but trade improvements are a must, and plenty of suggestions have already been provided, from the minimalist ones to total overhauls. My personal favorite is adding a full blown AH(poetrade inside the game with global trading), and making so you can only trade items of the same type: Gear for Gear, fossils for fossils, etc... This would bring the game back to what Chris envisioned in the early days of PoE, no currency, exiles trading what they had for what they need to survive. But that`s just me, it`s not a popular one by far and will never come true.
" Well stated. Humorously, the GG gear that everyone references when talking about not wanting an AH is actually the only stuff that generally sells flawlessly. You can already very easily buy the 3-100ex gear. The trade is fast and seller responsive. Where trade actually fails is everything else. Leveling gear, moderate endgame gear, consumables (crafting and maps), uniques under 20c, etc. Using gear thats actually useful for progression in defeating lvl 8 awakener as an example of not wanting an AH is silly. " No ignoring multiple glaring issues that were pointed out and never even attempted to be answered let alone having valid solution for is silly. |

Seems there is a lot of back and forth and disagreement over how an AH could function or if it would ruin the game. I personally would love to see an auction house implemented. So what's the harm in trying?
How about another standard league with an auction house, and leave the current one alone. Restrict it to AH trading only and see what happens. That seems like the best of both worlds option. Those that want the hassle free trading will use it and those that want the current status quo will do their thing and everyone will be happy. |

" What is the harm you say? 1) they clearly said there will never be ah. Going back on that massively hurts their image. 2) it takes butload of effort to create well done ah. That is bears massive costs. 3) it would result in lacking features/polish etc from next league or leagues And notice i didnt even say anything about how badly it will fail and cause massive anger from large part of player base? More importantly core base that loved this game since start? And all of that because you think there should be one because in your limited personal experience it looks good in your head? |

Never try anything new because change is bad. OK got it.

" Yea I like that idea of having a league with an AH and one without one. They already have an SSF league so why not just do another one to suit the ones that dont want an AH. I would love an AH as I hate wasting limited time sending tells to 23423432423423424 different "afks" trying to buy stuff. Pick and choose your league, problem solved.
As an interesting point take a look at number of support icons for people wanting ah and people against. It is quite different. While no spending more money on this game does not mean you smarter it does usually means you played it longer and are more invested into it. Not to mention are the core PAYING player
base. |
