Yeah people made such a fuss about this charan guy that even got me curious as aswell.
What happened? Why he quit? Why is he so famous? Why people "miss" him? Why Im asking all of this?

He has expressed why he left to me, but it is not my place to relay them to others. But I will say marriage is not part of his thinking.

The main reason Charan is famous or infamous (depends on your viewpoint) is that he had a
"Ruler of Wraeclast" title (only available in open beta PoE):

This allowed him to design a monster or weapon (for 12.5 grand I'd sure hope so). He chose to make a 6L sword called the Oni-Goroshi (aka "Charan's Sword") that became famous for several reasons:

1. It talks to you while playing. (Only other talking sword is the "Jack, The Axe" hatchet).
2. It is 100% farmable at the start (Twilight Strand Beach zone).
3. It procs "Her Embrace" and adds 2 to 3 physical damage per level so it scales beautifully.


It's also good for a Cyclone build.

I took my Cycloner Slayer all the way into yellow maps in Blight SSF deathless.


Not exactly sure why he quit and had his main account wiped but probably he hated the coming 4.0 change to sockets on skill gems instead of on gear which will wreck the 6L gear chase forever (farming an OG will cease to be of any useful value except to honor his sword creation). That and he had some kind of a run in with the GGG etiquette police.

Since he started PoE at the very beginning in Alpha (maybe pre-alpha) he had a ton of PoE knowledge and posted in these forums almost daily. Some claim he's infamous for his quickness to call out anyone who had incorrect info in a post on any PoE topic (thus pissing off some players). Still others say his PoE knowledge made him arrogant and abrasive in some threads. I only interacted with him to any extent in the other huge thread Oni-Goroshi in Current League - are You gonna farm it or drop it? when I would post on my lastest Uber Hillock battle on the beach so I never had any negative run-ins with him.

I can imagine finding a very blatant easter egg or a completely insanely coincidental bug (it obviously wasn't) and laughing at all the naysayers. I think that's close enough.

Nothing specific really. It's just a lot of people seem bothered with how long this thread has stayed at the top, I was worried it might end up getting bu-... <.< Oh no! >.> It's happening again!
