Performance and Stability

Nice read.

I play on a laptop that is like 6 years old and I usually have minimal issues. I also usually play at like 50 fps, but I don't give a shit about that. I think the only time this league I noticed a real performance problem was when I tried to vaal cyclone a blight map. That did not end well.

So I really don't understand all the bellyaching about needing a top rig or blahblahblah from people.

Thanks for clarifying a few concerns
Thank you for the explanation. At least now we understand why the Blight map drop rate was nerfed and not restored...It is the most logical temporary solution.

Im certain you guys will find a solution soon, as you always do.

I appreciate such posts, while acknowledging the issues is a good first step; it will only get you so far...

Taking about performance issues:
Yesterday, after doing a trade, I was lingering in the other player hideout until he asked me to leave because my minions are making his game sluggish. I only had 10 zombies and 4 specters and was idling.
Do you actually QA the game with minimal or medium specs computers or all your team only run top specs?

As for the mapping performance problems, they were there in Legion as well, and they were observable by casual players with good (not top) specs PC, how come you QA team never uncovered them?

Aside from doing analysis on what is causing the issue, do you do any deep dive to understand how you got into this situation? Because you seem to keep making the same mistakes again and again in regard with performance and understanding how game complexity affects performance.

PS: And do something about the crap drops that we never care about. I hit alt (to show all the drops) after a blight map (T2, with 4 mods, solo - nothing crazy) and my game was freezing for 2 seconds only to show the text. While filters hide the text, the items are still generated, rendered, etc. That's a game design issue - you might want to revisit those to give you the flexibility you need to add new features/mechanics.

I too really appreciate these sorts of posts from a game developer. Obviously players are still going to complain, but the transparency and not talking down to players is something that's almost never seen anymore.

It's been two weeks with several patches and significant improvements for most players, yet I still see posts declaring the league dead claiming every new mtx released is stopping bug fixes. People need some damn patience. GGGs rate of new content release and fixes are blisteringly fast compared to pretty much any game I can think of.

Two weeks? I wish it had only been two weeks this has been going on for multiple leagues with similar posts in each league acknowledging problems and they have only gotten worse for pretty much everyone that is experiencing the problems. And these from pretty much everything i've seen aren't people with bad pc's it's the above average to great pc's getting hit hard by it. I'm glad you don't have the problem because it really sucks to experience them with no fix in sight. I still love the game but for there to have been no improvements for multiple leagues its concerning as hell. Acknowledgment is great but if no action is taken it doesn't mean a whole lot. And yea part of the problem is their rate of release I be happy if they slowed it a bit maybe went to 3 instead of 4 a year if it meant they could solve these problems.

It's a fact, check the steam charts. The league peaked already and the peak was much lower than the previous 3 leagues:

A pity, because all the performance issues aside, I liked the league somewhat.

I just found something so obvious that it is easy to miss. I was trying to pinpoint the issues as my system is pretty up to date.. and boom. when you install the 3.8 client your 64 bit shortcut was overwritten to the 32 bit shortcut client. For 2 weeks i have suffered with 1 to 2 frames in groups.. now after the switch. its still a bit laggy with screen spam but overall. 100 percent improvement. So do yourself a favor and check it. It one of those things easy to miss since it was updated and using the right 64 bit client more than doubled my performance!

Hope that helps bois!

just to add in for some stats here

im running a overclocked fx-8350 @4.8gz paired with a gtx1070 OC'd to 2100hz on the gpu core and this game TANKS my performance over the last 2 years.

my cpu is at a constant 60-100% usage while my gpu is FULLY MAXED OUT running normaly at 99%usage with my ram well over the 8-10gb range running on a ssd with loadtimes taking almost 30secconds in some cases like loading into the endgame act with all the people and the microtransactions stacked on the waypoint with frames hovering there in the 40's.

tbh i dont see the game getting any smoother over time if anything with all the addons it will just get worse overtime.

i think the best case here is to re-evaluate the required PC specs for running the game without a hitch, and possibly redoing the minimum specs to show a more modern spec sheet, at this point this game CANNOT run on the min specs listed on steam or on your website. (this isnt 2013 anymore guys)

i should state i am running the steam client VS the GGGlauncher.

I haven't played the last two leagues.I do however play alot of standard.I find myself preparing days for it every new release and it has become very tedious. From reading the patch notes to setting up my options every time to having 3 or 4 web pages opened for trade for wiki.Setting up my filterblade. And when I am all done I still must keep poe trade open , wiki because of all the new things , acquisition even tho I have some premium tabs all these things eat my computer resources.Sometimes my acquistion prices reset it is such a pain in the *** to deal with.Anyway what I am getting at is when are all these new things to much?I think , standard at least, is in a really good place and ofc new things should be added but maybe not as fast since new things come from league every 4 months anyway.I grow weary maybe I am getting old :(.

Setting the Global to my 3d video card resulted in it, rather than Intel HD Graphics, being the only option in the grayed-out POE options dropdown, and my performance problems pretty much disappearing. Including the previous-version one where the graphics and game speed would degrade rapidly when the computer got too hot (in spite of the fan cooling pad!), until I'd run my desk fan pointed at the keyboard for a minute or two.

My mistake, the overheating one still happens on maps, though not as quickly.

Also seem to be prone to client crashes when entering a Delve, these days.
