Animation canceling is [Removed by Support]! - it must be optional!

I'm on a 4th build atm (EQ, ED-contagion, Cyclone, Ice Nova) and animation canceling literally [Removed by Support] thru how frustrating it is on 4th build in a row. At times it pisses me so much my brain is boiling.

The amount I things I canceled unintentionally vs canceling animation for actual benefit (like avoiding death) is at least at 1000:1 ratio. I mean it just completely messes your gameplay while barely ever serving you as it was intended to serve.

At this point I will openly and directly say - [Removed by Support] and that I would love ability to turn it off completely and have it the old way. Not to mention the countless bugs being result of animation cancel and skill queue mechanics added in 3.7.

Every build I played this league felt so much clumsy and clunky just because of it, while it should do complete opposite. The slower you cast or attack, the more obnoxious it gets with anything <5-6 attacks/casts I would call just barely playable and for sure annoying as hell.

In general I like most of 3.7 changes and I love the Legion league (it's been long time I made 4 characters in a league, because I was getting bored for many reasons - annoying and tiresome league mechanics, boring drops, game feeling unrewarding, etc) but I absolutely hate everything related to animation canceling.


GGG, please make it optional, add toogle in game's settings or something - because I'm honestly not sure if I can bare it for one more league

I still have plan for one or two builds for this league before I retire from Legion, but hell - I don't think I can take this animation canceling frustration anymore. It just feels god awful - and I'm dead serious. Even Octavian was having similar feelings on Baeclast podcast and I'm sure there's many other people feeling the same way.

to be specific, its cancelling the first use of a skill before it goes off that is really horrendous.

cancelling the tail after a skill goes off is fine, cancelling a 3rd, 4th, 5th... repeat of a skill is fine. Cancelling the first use of a skill is awful.


I never want to do it, ever, I never use a skill and decide i want to undo that choice before it goes off, ever, 13k+ hours /played I have never once wanted to do that and never will.


I cant even play builds like eq, I tried my eq marauder, its fucking unplayable, it actually makes me pissed off theyve done this to their game its absolute garbage.
I made a similar thread and the best info i got was it helps low lvl chars who use the default attk. Once you get more than 2 aps it doesnt seem worthwhile.

Leagues are beta's, they are just testing tech with this one.

Ed was my first char this league, no idea why you cannot shoot straight, have to stand there for a sec or sometimes it doesnt even hit

Too bad, I'd agree with the subject, but I cannot agree with the way you're putting it, my reading stopped after 15 secs.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

As much as I also hate this usage (because what word will we use when someone's head actually, literally, in true reality, explodes?), it has been in the English lexicon for literal centuries, including usage as exaggeration by Charles Dickens in 1839, and in Jane Eyre in 1847. As a descriptivist, I cannot deny the validity of a word-meaning so deeply ingrained in the English language, and generally neither can dictionaries, as they tend to list the colloquial usage as an intensifier as an alternative meaning to the word.

Still, that was informative thank you, I did not expect it to go that far back.
I won't stop pointing out when people use the word "literal" in such a stupid way though (some might use it as "figuratively" in a more .. "careful" way of course, not the OP here though for sure), but I guess that's my opinion (that you seem to be partly sharing).

For sure, words change their meanings and acquire additional ones over time, but we can resist these if we think that doing so will help preserve a useful distinction. So it is with literally. If you want your words to be taken seriously – at least in contexts where it matters – you might see the value in using literally with care.


SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

It's aggravating me quite a bit while resummoning golems. I'm used to doing it on the run and now that just cancels the cast and the skill goes on cooldown.

Some sort of intelligent approach is needed, or at least a toggle.
IMO a toggle would be ideal, but I'm not sure how easy it is to code that in with how ambitious their code re-writes tend to be and how fast they push them out (3-month leagues seem like they'd have brutal development cycles).

Animation cancelling has caused way more issues than it solved.

PoE gameplay consists of setting off a series of animations by pressing different buttons, each with their own speeds (and some instant that can be done concurrently). Usually players want these animations - sped up by stat increases - to go off back-to-back in order to gain all their benefits. Cancelling them before they have any effect by moving or trying to do a different one is totally counterproductive.

Getting my warcries, guard spells, summons/totems, and curses (a few old chars curse manually as an arcane surge setup) out so they have any effect before I move/deal damage has been a nightmare this league.

All other negative feedback aside, this might be the sleeper candidate for the worst change in 3.7, as it effects gameplay across-the-board.
