Code of Conduct Changes - Do better at least for optics

OTOH, if you want to talk 'optics' (I really despise that word), seeing moderators and even devs engage in discussions about books, music, other games, anime, etc, can be very uplifting for a community. So I don't think they *want* to shut OT down altogether. It's just a fact that we now live in a world where certain topics just won't end well and so many of us can't escape them even in everyday life.

But is it such a bad thing that we can at least try to with our hobbies and pastimes? And isn't PoE, for better or worse, like most games, a vehicle for escapism?

If you despise 'optics' I equally despise 'inflammatory', because whatever the fuck that means.

I mean you could say that being critical of game mechanics or developmental process is being inflammatory. Hell half the threads in general have posts that could be considered inflammatory right now. (not to mention game chat)

Overall this hyper-sensitivity doesn't help anyone. It makes things worse and worse, and we as a whole are less capable of handling adversity, and differing thoughts, viewpoints, and opinions.

That being said, society isn't TencentGGG's responsibility, and who in the hell wants to take on that burden in addition to their normal jobs.

Concerning optics they just picked a really bad day to implement.

As far as interpretation and vagueness, they are already openly censoring non political, etc. topics. I got censored for complaining about a tech issue.

Whatever you do, don't complain about the delay in patch notes. That'll get whacked too.
Censored.

I also believe a thread won't be locked for a single inflammatory post made within it.

I'd like to chime in here - this is pretty much the gist of it. We will be moderating threads when the whole thread itself breaches our Code of Conduct, and we will be moderating individual posts that break the rules when the remainder of the thread is totally fine. This isn't actually a change to our usual moderation behaviour, it's how we do it across the board.

There will likely be fringe cases. For example, where the overall discussion in a thread continues to stray into territory breaching our rules: after multiple warnings/staff posts where we would consider closing the entire thread.

It isn't what we did. It is what we will now do. With the wise decision by GGG now we have no choice but to embrace each others humanity in love and respect. [hug] XXXOOOXOXOXO smooch embrace throw kisses [/hug]
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

the only effect will be more people moving to reddit, the positive effect for ggg is less moderation needed here.

well. about time to take some time off from these forums.

It also applies to global channels in-game, so there's not going to be much positive effect for GGG from this any time soon. The forums are actually incredibly tame compared to a lot of what goes on in global.

On the forums it's like opening a can of worms that probably didn't really need to be opened. For global it's more like opening a crate of venomous snakes that explicitly says "WARNING: DO NOT OPEN!"

That is clearly an opinion, not a fact. Myself, I'm satisfied just fine when I've made my case against a debate opponent who obstinately refuses to be persuaded. Maybe that's because I don't write to the one I'm arguing so much as to the greater audience.

You seem to think a virtual fight that ends in IRL butthurt didn't end well. I think that's a rather peculiar thought for a Path to Exile player to have. Especially if they play HC. Should we get rid of death penalties because feelings?

Ah yes, the wisdom of authoritarianism. Oh what a burden is freedom! How enlightened it is to censor others! Because everyone knows how history has proven such a tactic to always, ahem, end well.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
