Code of Conduct Changes - Do better at least for optics

If you worked customer service after college, then you should be aware that people are fucking awful to CS folks and that the job is very mentally taxing and super stressful.

I don't blame anyone who wants to try and find a way to make it better. Doesn't mean I agree with the whole "nobody talk about anything interesting ever again" decision, but what do you want from Tencent, ne? Grinding Gear is a Chinese-owned company now, and if 1984 is ever going to happen for real, China is where it's going to start and everybody knows it.

Improve your social score, comrade.
GGG has every right to limit the forum to whatever they want. It is reasonable, IMHO, to ban discussions on politics and religion. It doesn't matter why they did it. I have to believe that they did it for the reasons already stated. I consider it a silly unsupported conspiracy theory that some people are blaming Tencent for this. Tencent is a huge company. I can't imagine them caring one wit about what we discuss here.

Tencent is the world's largest gaming company, one of the world's most valuable technology companies, one of the world's largest social media companies, and one of the world's largest venture capital firms and investment corporations. Its many services include social network, music, web portals, e-commerce, mobile games, internet services, payment systems, smartphones, and multiplayer online games, which are all among the world's biggest and most successful in their respective categories. Offerings in China include the instant messenger Tencent QQ and one of the largest web portals, QQ.com. It also owns the majority of China's music services (Tencent Music Entertainment), with more than 700 million active users and 120 million paying subscribers. The company surpassed the market value of US$500 billion in 2018, becoming the first Asian technology company to cross the valuation mark. It has since then emerged as one of Asia's most valuable companies, and among the world's top technology companies by market value. Tencent has been credited as one of the world's most innovative companies by numerous media and firms, including Boston Consulting Group. As of 2018, Tencent has the 5th highest global brand value.

Dont underestimate Chinese sensitivity TD.

They are the most populous country in the world, and one of the largest economies. However if ANYONE speaks out about the state or Xi (including Winnie the fucking Pooh) they crackdown.

To say GGG is too small, and they dont care, isnt true in the slightest imo.

Spoiler
wait is this political discussion??

Experiment confirmed.

Thread posted which would've been perfectly peachy-keen fine (at least until the grognards derailed it) last week? Deleted in less than an hour today.

Remember, errybuddy - no more discussing anything worth talking about on the Path of Exile forums. Including Path of Exile, because remember - whatever your opinion of the game is, someone will disagree with it, and disagreement is now forbidden around here.

Maybe, but only if we were discussing Chinese politics. No reason I can think of that they would be concerned about USA politics.

GGG has provided completely reasonable explanations for the change. I'm surprised they didn't ban political discussions years ago. It's a no win proposition for GGG to even allow it.

Political discussion is one thing.

Just got a message from Kieran_GGG telling me that philosophical debate is also banned, and furthermore instructing me to avoid "testing" the new policy by posting things which might be inflammatory.

Grinding Gear's stance for the change is indeed reasonable. I have no doubt it was a factor in their thinking. I also have no doubt it was not the only factor in their thinking, especially since the monumental Chinese Skynet digital overlords you just pointed out as being in possession of effectively infinite resources as compared to any scale we operate on does a significant chunk of their thinking for them these days.

Remember, everybody - no more discussion of anything relevant or interesting. We all have to be very careful not to lower our social scores.

I mean...wow

Hell the ending to GoT was inflammatory lol.

What about scientific theory? Non-fiction writing? Aliens? Climate change (almost certainly), pollution in our oceans? Haha...cmon this is ridiculous

It is absolutely ridiculous, and flies utterly in the face of what Sarah_GGG said earlier. They will absolutely shut down civil discourse for no reason just because they disapprove of the topic. This entire section of the board now basically exists for nothing but crappy meme posts. Forget about any kind of constructive discussion of anything with any weight to it.

Science? Banned

Nonfiction writing? Banned

Aliens? only if it's a shitty meme thread.

Climate change? Political (somehow, because fuck America), and thus auto-banned forever.

Pollution? Also political - again, because fuck America - and thus auto-banned forever.

Welcome to Internet By Tencent, folks.

Can we conclude that philosophy is also off-limits, given a thread was just removed with a common-place philosophy question.(does the evil of one person outweigh the good of another)

Expect me to ask more questions since you didn't define your rules at all.
