I am considering playing this for flashback, as I have never done a CI build and I feel like this would be a safe introduction to allow me to get a feel for how it plays and how to gear for it. I do have one question though.

Around what level or ES amount is the right time to move to CI? I might have missed it when reading the build, but not sure I saw that aspect mentioned. Thanks and good luck in the flashback if you play!
Thanks phopper33! Good luck in the event!

I don't specifically state when to go CI in the guide. It's 100% preference. I go as soon as I get my 1st Ascendancy, Wicked Ward. The perk of keeping your ES recharge even when taking damage is so strong. So that's around level 30-35. If you're not comfortable with that, CI is really easy after getting the 2nd Ascendancy, Vile Bastion. The extra ES regen is really nice but the biggest survivability perk here is the immunity to Stun. And once you have both of those ascendancy perks, CI is really easy.

A lot of people might be used to the way CI used to be before the Occultist got revamped. But for me the sooner you get CI the better (but not before Wicked Ward). I don't like respec'ing characters back and forth as I level, so I never focus on Maximum Life on my gear when I'm leveling a CI character...ES all the way :-). So since I'm always running around with a really low life, the sooner chaos damage doesn't affect me, the better.

I have a suggested path to take for the passive tree, but it's not by any means required. It's just well balanced with damage and defense. Whether you take that route or not, CI is really easy after Wicked Ward.

I hope that answers your question. I know the event is about to start, ask any questions you like and I'm happy to help. But I likely won't see any other posts until late tonight my time.

Good luck with your Flashback :-)

thx for ur time and input, i got ES to 7000 with buff on. i looked at items with more ES but cant afford them, so i will have to do with what i got.
Hello!

It's quite a good starter build right?
Consider playing it on flashback because I want at least two of the reward for xbo...
And I'm not a buttonsmasher tbh...

Hello.

First time actually using builds, but I must say that gameplay with that build is just sweet and simple. Just hit 88 lvl with it, still struggling with that arse Izaro in Uber Lab.

So my question is, how to proceed with the passive tree after lvl 91? I see some nodes with Damage Over Time left to Fangs of The Viper. I am also wondering about getting the starter nodes with spell damage that goes to Arcanist's Dominion. What will be best way to go in your opinion?

Also I wonder what I may be doing wrong, as my ES is 7500 and I still get quite bamboozled at maps T11+.
Hey, thanks for the build.

I noticed you take Arcane Vision (Light Radius based on ES instead of Life). Just fyi, this is pointless for a CI build. We are always "full life" with the 1 maximum life. That node is just for Low Life builds that reserve most of their life with auras.

Second, I think you should try pathing towards Fingers of Frost in top right. On your tree, it's 6 points. But it's a pretty big DPS increase.. cold damage over time multiplier is really good for Vortex. Maybe go there instead of pathing through Shaper and into Skittering Runes (that's 7 points).

Just my own suggestion though :)

The gear comes in time. Pretty rare. i've had my gear forever waiting for one to be an improvement to my poor gear.

Hey Rashnaro,

Ya, awesome starter build. No button mashing at all. Just one button for Vortex. Flasks don't even heal you. You just use them when you get frozen and such.

Sorry I didn't get back to you before Flashback started.

The thing to keep in mind is that Vortex doesn't unlock until level 28. That being said though, the Witch has TONS for great options to play with prior to that. So much so that I don't even bother making any suggestions for skills to level with. Any cold spell that suits your playstyle works.

Good luck with the event! Let me know if you have questions. I normally check replies once every day or two.

Hey Shinowaty,

I'm glad you like the build! What seems to be getting you with Izaro? I didn't have any issues with him at a much lower level, so maybe there is something that we're missing?

For the nodes after 91, I'd go to Entropy. The damage increase for two nodes is way more than the other path you suggested. But, if you get past 93, the other path is a good one to take too.

In terms of mapping the red maps, even though 7500 ES seems high, we're still only getting damage mitigation once an enemy is hit with Enfeeble. So some hits in the map are going to hit hard until an enemy gets cursed. Most of the hits in a map are going to come from enemies that are already cursed, which will curse even more enemies, but some hits will be surprising. So watch for the maps with mods that are heavy hitting. Remember (once inside those maps) how hard they hit so you play a little more tentatively. I took a look at your character is it looks awesome! So it's nothing that you're doing (as far as I can see) that's causing any issues.

I'll be playing my Vortex character tonight. I'll post it on YouTube once I'm done. You can check it out here if it interests you.

Do you find that anything specific is Bamboozling you?

Hey projectsix,

You're welcome! I hope you're enjoying it!

Fingers of Frost is an awesome DPS boost for sure! But I only focused on DPS after curse improvements. Curse efficiency was a priority on the tree for me before DPS. So sacrificing curse improvements wasn't an option for me. After that, I took the DPS nodes that gave me the most DPS per node (via PoB), including travel nodes. The only exception I made to the latter was if AoE increases were available close by. So if AoE isn't a big deal for you, definitely head up to Fingers of Frost instead of Lethal Assault.

You are correct in regards to Arcane Vision. I did some testing and looked it up as well. Thanks for pointing it out! I'll make the change for 3.7. I'm very glad you pointed it out!

Thanks for the suggestions! Make any changes you want to the build of course! Any changes you like better, are good changes :). And thanks again for the thanks.

This build has been tons of fun so far. Stress free is the best PoE. Just wanted to let you know that bonechill comes as a reward from the king of fury/desire quests. Other than that this has been one of the best guides I've ever followed. Keep up the good work.
