[3.9] ColdXplosive Ice Trap Saboteur - All Content Viable & SSF Friendly - (Life version)

first time playing a trap/mine build.
i find the playstyle of baiting pretty cool and fun and the fact that i didnt even spend a single chaos orb early mapping is very good.
can't wait for next league to play even more of it, also is there a better
optional unique for the weapon slot? just wondering.

For the unique weapon I think you can try consider Doryani's Catalyst. It gives good amount of increased elemental damage and some crit chance as well.

May I ask how would your damage be consistent with ee?

I understand storm brand will trigger EE (for lightning) but then when you hit mob with ice trap it will also trigger EE (for cold). Traps would often time go off in multiple sequences so there could be a time frame where 2 ice traps explode before any lightning damage from brand or orb of storm hit.

Yes the damage boost is consistent for single target.

To clarify how the EE works: Traps, Mines or Totems are not counted as your hits, they are on their own.

Therefore they won't trigger EE, this works similarly as for other skills like Righteous Fire and Vortex too since they are dealing damage over time instead of hitting enemies.

So to ensure that your EE triggering skills are working correctly, you have to avoid any unwanted source of added elemental damage. In this case, which is "added cold damage to spells" have to be avoided for example.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you totally.

"Totems/Traps/Mines don't have their own skills - they're linked to you and cast your spells, with your stats, just like you would, so they'll inflict EE if you have it." - Quoted by Mark from GGG. The link is here:

In your case the best way to trigger EE is through the Malachai's Artifice ring where you would put a lightning or fire skill in this ring and get rid of EE in the skill tree. The skill in this ring will trigger EE but you will not hence you will benefit from EE as anytime you wish.

I do think you got it wrong on this. The build looks awesome though but I think EE is killing your damage at this stage.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy recently.

You are right, I did a few tests again and the Ice Trap does trigger EE as described from the POE Wiki.

I will just remove EE from the build for now and adjust some minor things that fit the upcoming 3.9 MetaMorph League.

I will be doing ice trap as a league starter as well due to its insane damage with shit gear against bosses and also less action per minute than mines build
