Grim Dawn Forgotten Gods felt kind of short
I said before, I play grim dawn on x2 speed, it just feels too slow on normal game speed.
You would think it would be rippy like poe but its not, even though its x2. Although i admit playing tanky characters too. Also, I read something about being able to buy something in latest expansion if you skip elite, to add all missed shrines from elite or something in your ultimate playthrough. Spreading salt since 2006

Yes, if you have a character that has finished Ultimate before you can buy tokens to pass on to other characters that allow you to start in any difficulty. The character will get all the quest and shrine points at once. I don't know about faction reputation, you need high faction rep to buy their gear augments for resistances, which I think would be absolutely necessary.
A character that finishes Ultimate can also buy experience potions to pass on to alts, I forget whether they give either 200-250% experience, but they allow alts to greatly speed through the game. Obviously, with all the resistance penalties and high level enemies, this seems to be aimed at people that have a lot of items farmed up already for twinking alts. It is a slower game than PoE for sure, the new expansion area has vendors that sell augments for medals that give I think 250% boost for various kinds of movement, leap,sprint, and others, temporary but with a short cool-down. BearCares, your points are well taken. The base game, before expansions, seemed like an extended tutorial to me, your point as to first 50 levels seems pretty fair to me. This might have turned off people that didn't get the expansions, where difficulty and general game speed seems, IMO, to really pick up. As to the shrines for the constellation points, they are really the thing that allows differentiation and specialization of builds. Nearly all of them are on the main path, a very few underground in caves or dungeons. The above ground ones are as easy to find either by chance or easily spotted on the map built in in Grim Tools. I can't really compare the constellation thing, shrine points given, anything like PoE's Ascendancies, they are much more accessible. I had already farmed a good set, so yesterday I sped a character to level 80,still in early Elite. Before the expansion it would have took me much longer to get all the shrines needed to max my constellation (55). They added so many more that they were easier to get far earlier than before, and holy shit, I can really feel the difference in my character. These buffs gain experience too, so they're only going to get better. I dunno, whatever you enjoy, go for it. I'm old and the pace suits me better than the CuteDog style.I still will play around in Standard with my PoE characters, but the Intervention freezes in particular, and corresponding experience loss really grinds my gears in a very bad way. |

" what do you mean by slow progression ? if you mean game speed at which you travel through areas, you should drop the word 'progression' and use 'speed' instead. the progression itself is just fine because it autoscales, especially now with expansion content. without exploring side areas, you can run quickly through the main story. very quickly. since maps are static, once you learn them you can run extremely quickly " side areas and interesting small 'decisions' and sidequests are quite good imo and something poe can use of more. unfortunately the current fanbase of poe is people who need speed badly and dont like to make choices... " no they arent. especially in the new expansion. you can finish getting all the shrines in elite.. if you want your speed and efficiency you can just choose the ones that arent hidden/off the main path. since there are shrines in malmouth and fg content its trivial " oh no, backtracking in a game that rewards you with a lot of quest xp for completing optional/hidden content there is nothing wrong with backtracking in games in general. you know whats funny, MOST people who think arpgs should be linear and as speedy as possible havent played a single arpg that came out before d2. and they probably didnt play d2 without enigma/sorc teleport " QED |

also, about item progression in GD since it deserves another post.
first, poe trade league has zero item progression. all you need is currency and you can get endgame set of items that can do uber elder in like your 70s. this is nonsense imo. in ssf, there is some item progression in terms of shaper/elder items. you cant find these before maps. still, endgame starts too soon in terms of items progression in poe. there is no real incentive to progress your character so he can equip better items. aside from shaper/elder items, all that changes is range of Tx rolls on items. GD has that until the level cap. you constantly get upgrades. in poe you might an item you dropped pre-maps through lvl 100 grind, at least in ssf. that isnt really happening in GD, as values inflate constantly. this is a type of 'controlled' power creep that is acceptable because it is part of character progression. PoE has far more interesting items in general because the gameplay is far more flexible. and many unique items are actually unique and enables some mechanics that is otherwise either worthless or rarely used. in PoE, many builds do not really depend on gear. On contrary, GD is VERY dependant on gear. shit gear will make best builds weak, and amazing gear will make weird build combinations and weaker classes appear strong. |

Okay I concede that I don't know as much about GD as you do. But you can't disqualify PoE's itemization just because of trade existing. For me, I simply craft everything that I CAN. And I buy the things that I can't. In Betrayal I think I bought a grand total of 2-3 items. And I crafted the rest of my stuff.So there is a grey area between SSF and the guy who just buys all his gear with currency. And I believe that is the spot where PoE shines the most. That is the spot where Synthesis and Betrayal are so much more rewarding than people are giving them credit for.
At least for me. But yeah I will concede that you know way more about GD than I do. I didn't eve know it had a 2x speed setting. Probably I guess because I never logged into that forum seing as its a single player game I didn't see the point. But the thing that bothers me about GD's itemization is that they use the good old Mario Kart yoyo'ing mechanic in that they lok at your build and then they create drops based on the build that you seem to be playing. If they see you're going lightning damage + a certain skill, then they start hand feeding you lightning damage + a certain skill items upgrades. At least that's what it felt like to me. Whatever I was playing they would hand feed me subquential upgrades to it as I went along like breadcrumbs. I don't know if it's true butt hat's how it felt. I prefer that PoE approach of the drops not giving a fuck what you're playing but then the currency allowing you to alter the items in such a dramatic way that once near irrelevent drops can suddenly become BiS! That to me is the better item progression. I just remember crafting a 20% phys as extra cold damage elder amulet with +30% increased effectiveness of non damaging ailments for my Disintegrator build and it was such a cool feeling to know that I was making an amulet that 99% of the playerbase really wouldn't care too much about but that it was BiS for MY build. " There are still things to find (including some famous secrets and "Uber bosses"), but I agree from around the start of Act 4 it feels less open for exploration. Forgotten Gods kind of brings that "open world" feeling back, but monster density is low, and I feel that either I missed a lot of secrets or there weren't that many to find, to begin with. I tried griminternals to see incoming damage #s and health bars...autopickup components/quest items is too good, Im turning that shit off. Im not trying to enforce my opinion on everyone or anything, but I do feel bad about people who cannot play arpgs at slow pace. youre missing out on ton of great games and new arpgs fucked up big time going along with this dumb trend. diablo 1 was and still is a great game, at the speed that it runs.
