Number 1: No couch Coop. This is basicially what consoles games are made for.

Back in the 8/16-bit era, the best games were the ones where you could just plug-in a second pad and play alongside a friend. Since the internet became a thing, local multiplayer has practically died-out. A few games still support it, but by-and-large online multiplayer has replaced local multiplayer.

The only reason this is a drawback to PoE at all is because D3 had couch-coop. Had Diablo 3 not featured couch co-op, we wouldn't be expecting PoE to have it either. Couch-coop doesn't exist in the PC version either, but nobody expects to see it there just because it died-out earlier on PC than it did on console.

Number 2: LOADING times! You seriouse? Up to almost a minute? Wow. With many speed builds i will probably be more in loading screens than fighting mobs.

And? Path of Exile isn't exactly the only game around to have lengthy load-times. I'm not saying it's not a problem, but nobody complains about some of the insane load-times in games like Bloodborne for example.

You can't even point to this as a console-exclusive problem. Slow loading is also a thing on PC, and people suggest you use an SSD for faster loading. Why is that suddenly a big deal on console? The HDD's of those are just as easy, if not easier, to replace and consoles are compatible with PC SDD's.

Those lengthy load-times aren't exactly setting new records for slow-loading; it's just not super-fast. And the load-times also assume you're using a standard HDD.

Number 3: No MTX/QOL.

There is MTX. I don't know what you mean by "QOL" because that usually means "Quality of Life", which usually refer to game features. Game features that in most cases will also translate across to console in some form. For example Loot Filters are a QOL feature, and console will get those.

Well i could live with buying MTX twice and even without couch coop. But not sure if i can live with the loading times.

But you're happy with the PC version, where you had to originally buy your MTX, and which also lacks couch-coop? And as I explained earlier, the load times are approximately the same as the PC version; if you're getting faster loading speeds it probably means you have an SSD inside your PC, or you're running the game with very-low texture quality - in which case the solution for the console version is the same: get an SSD.

An update about PlayStation 4 release: the European version will be available at 12 am on the 26th of March (in your local timezone)! The American version will be available as was announced, at 8am PDT on the 26th of March.

seems to say the game will go live at midnight for every country in the Europe region. Europe is based around the GMT timezone, and different countries are plus or minus a few hours.

Of all the countries of Europe, one hits midnight before the others; I don't know which that is. However a bit of EU legislation has forced Sony to allow it's European players to specify and freely alter their local "country" within the PSN Store.

That means if you're in a country that has a GMT-XX timezone, you could in theory change that setting in the PSN to either the UK (GMT) or one of the countries that is GMT+XX.

Germany is a GMT+1 timezone, which means you're an hour ahead of me. That means I could switch my local country to Germany at 11:00PM on 25/03/19, and because it would be 12:00AM on 26/03/19 in Germany I should be able to start downloading the game early.

However I *don't* expect it will work this way, and GGG are probably just being unspecific in their tweet. The game's likely to unlock on the store at midnight GMT (because GMT is the core timezone european times are based around), which means people in the UK can't manipulate anything to get the game earlier. However people who're in countries that are ahead of the UK (like Germany) would still have to wait until the game unlocks in the UK, so the game might not appear for you until 01:00AM.

So it's still all up in the air, and I can't wait for the game to be out everywhere so we don't have to speculate or guess about this sort of thing any more :)

Welcome to the community though, PS4 users! :)

+1

There is no way I will ever consider a console version without having the benefits of the cosmetics and stash tabs I already paid for.

I understand it is to do with the billing and revenue arrangements with Sony/Microsoft but until this happens, you are alienating a large player base that already invested in your product.

That is a Sony issue, not a GGG or tencent issue. Sony simply does not want cross platform gaming, they lost out big time on many games that could be played on many platforms with the same account.

It's just how they do things, and there is nothing you,me,or ggg can do about that. If this game would be as well known and as successful as fortnite in it's glory days, then maybe sony would change it's mind, the possibility of earning tens towards hundreds of millions is too enticing.

But that's not the case with path of exile. This is a niche game with a very small market compared to many of the well known titles being played today. This isn't fortnite, or cod,or battlefield...etc,etc. So the earning potential is much smaller for sony to make an exception about cross platform like they did with fortnite.

That's correct.

Sony don't block this kind of thing per-se, it's decided on a case-by-case basis depending on a number of factors.

Let's say Path of Exile wasn't a F2P game, but a full-priced £60 game. If it was, Sony would be making a large sum of money for every copy sold, and it would require PS-Plus which would be an ongoing source of income.

So in that scenario the relatively tiny proceeds from MTX wouldn't be such a big deal to Sony. Sony would be interested in anything that would possibly increase the number of buyers and players of the game, and if cross-MTX would make existing long-time PC players more likely to grab the PS4 version, Sony absolutely would sacrifice their MTX takings to facilitate that because they would make much more money in the long-term.

Path of Exile's problem is it doesn't have a buy-in price, doesn't require a PS-Plus subscription, and the MTX that it does sell are not pushed especially hard, and none are actually mandatory.

So Sony is banking on MTX sales alone, in a game where a huge number of players will either by no or very little MTX. If those players were able to simply port their pre-existing MTX across, that would massively cripple those takings and provide little to no benefit to Sony.

12:00AM 26/03/19.

The time is in 12-hour format. There's no such thing as "0:00am" because 12-hour format times range from 1:00 to 12:59, so you have the AM cycle (midnight to midday), and the PM cycle (midday to midnight).

25/3/19 thus ends at 11:59PM, and then a minute later it becomes 12:00AM on the 26/3/19. 12:00AM is when the date changes.

So PoE will be releasing in 16 hours 13 minutes in the UK; in other countries it *may* release an hour or two before or after that depending on their local time relative to the UK.

Thats true, but let's see the bigger picture. PoE is mainstream now. Especially after blizzard screw up diablo. Just having PoE on platform can attract new players. Those new players will eventually buy some other games. Here is profit!

Clearly those guys at Sony can see the bigger picture. In PS3 early years they were selling consoles at a loss, just to build up install base.
