So I have to drive my ass from one side of Auckland to the other just to pick up the badge on the friday (where there is no actual event for GA tickets) if I want to get the exclusive MTX? Am I understanding this correctly?
This seems like a minor gripe compared to those who can't get there at all because New Zealand is far away from everywhere but Australia, but it's a fair query. Surely you can pick up your badge on the day. Isn't that a given for any convention? I'd also like this confirmed or denied.
I'm sure some people from AU/Other parts of NZ have planned to come in on an early flight on the Saturday morning. An hour or so drive for me is a minor gripe, but I can see GA ticket holders having a major gripe about having to re-evaluate their flight plans and having to book an additional days accommodation for the sake of receiving the exclusive MTX. Or just straight up missing out on something that they have technically paid for. It's standard practice at most conventions to be able to pick up on the day (MTX/other exclusive items included), but it's just not very clear in this case. GGG, clarification needed.

From the ExileCon page at the bottom:
" Tickets can be picked up while the event is open, or on the Friday beforehand during specific hours."
Considering the badge would be needed to enter the venue, it looks like we can begin collecting on Friday, but also picking up when we arrive for the event for the first time on either Sat/Sun would also be fine.
As the badge is what comes with the exclusive MTX, I would assume these mean the same thing.
You believe that to defeat an enemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing. How is that different than "blood must have blood"? Last edited by ohaither#4727 on Mar 13, 2019, 10:47:13 PM

It looks a lot swankier than I expected. I'm used to nerd conventions in anything from racecourses (both Pax Aus and SMASH [the sydney manga and anime...something] were in racecourse facilities for a few years) to giant one-room halls. I suspect this will feel...quite different to those cattlefests.
They couldn't have picked a better venue. It's smack bang in the city center, right next door to an arcade and IMAX movie theatre, surrounded by numerous bars, restaurants, fast food, parks, galleries and what have you. Directly out front is "Aotea Square", a gathering place for street performers, food trucks, occasionally an ice rink, sometimes obscure sculptures are on display, other artsy fartsy stuff. There will be plenty of room inside the venue as well as outside, cattlefest unlikely, it's where Armageddon used to be hosted which typically brought 30-50k people per day. I'm almost worried that it's TOO big and it won't have that typical convention feel, but we will see how things pan out. Worst case scenario, if the con isn't up to much you can always bail, its a 2-5 minute walk in any direction to some form of entertainment. Including brothels.

Well. I mean. Who reads fine print anyway? Thank you, person with eyes.

Whoa, thanks for the info. We're planning on arriving the thursday, hanging til tues or weds (sadly this won't be a comprehensive 'New Zealand' trip for us, so no Weta tours or Bag End exploration) and I'm glad to hear there's plenty going on in the area.
Funny you'd mention brothels. The last time I was in Auckland, my gracious host also casually pointed out known brothels as we walked around the cbd. You guys proud of that stuff or something? :P We Sydneysiders have *murdered* our red light district with ridiculous lock-out laws forcing night-life to death by midnight, shutting down bars and whatnot. But hey, plenty of net cafes in the area.
Hobbiton is only 2hrs drive from Auckland so you could probably fit that in time wise. Logistics and cost is another matter.
