Another closed beta supporter chiming in, great write-up!
Oh god, the memories.... i remember when Merveil was the last boss and we had nothing but act 1. Maelstrom of Chaos as endgame and all the old talent trees with and without Shadow part and character. How long and great road did you guys take... :)
Lol man this is soo good!!

I still have my message here with the phrase:

"Welcome to the Path of Exile Beta!"

does anyone else think the shock nova in the first clip looks way better than the current one? lol

Not only nova but also auras and maybe charges.

Well it was very different game back then.

The release of Act 3 was so epic after running around two acts for a little while. Seeing the slums, listening to the music, and then hearing the crazy torture sounds in Crematorium was awesome!

Pretty sure I had more than a few HC characters nuked by those Carrion Queens in the Merciless Warehouse zone...was cool to see it return in Act 8.

That Dominus dialogue remains the coolest to this day. It's a shame that he feels like a minor player now - he feels like the kind of boss you should face more than once.
Wow. I've been involved with PoE for 7 years now. Joined Oct. 2011. I can still remember watching gameplay videos before I started, and being so hyped.

I still feel that same excitement I did on day 1 every league and character I make. The combat then was so slow....and now so fast. Game has evolved. Those of us remember how TERRIBLE performance/crashing was.

Seriously, PoE is one of my all time favorite games ever made. Never lose sight GGG. Remember what keeps PoE amazing, and the support around it. It's like a little family.

Ah, the good old days, when typical builds would require multiple attacks/casts just to down ordinary white trash mobs.

Though, really, the game's evolved a lot. It's a testament to both how hard GGG's creative team is, as well as how smart they are.

7 years ago, New Zealand basically didn't even have the people with expertise to develop and support the operation of a high-end online video game. They've changed all that, to show that the northern hemisphere doesn't have a monopoly on talented and skilled development teams!

I do hope that the folks over there are consciously taking pride that they're not just great devs, but trailblazers!

Or at least, not relegated to someone you fight not even 1/3 through the main campaign. Same thing with Malachai, who comes across as FAR more epic a boss encounter than anything from Acts 5-10.

My two biggest mistakes in poe:
1. Didnt buy supporterpack in beta
2. Didnt buy 1st Helloween Hat
Songs are like knights. They need to be covered in metal.
the old trailers are so cool!
