Thanks for the guide again! Wasn't real fond of the skellies until a friend got a vaal skeletons. Now I only use the vaal skill and wow they wreck. My friends are loving it on delve and bosses. My army does all the work lol! So far I've done up to T5 but I just got to mapping last night.
You're very welcome! I'm in the same boat. Once the zombies were ok without any other minions, I find I typically only use Vaal Skeletons as well.

I have a question for anyone who might know. (This seems to be the only thing I ever need to ask about lol) With the changes to the Atlas, mob levels changed. Anyone know where the Bone Helmet drops now? I did a Vaal Pyramid which used to drop it and the mobs used to be lvl 75, they are now 72.
I don't know. I'm sorry. The item level is still 73 for the Helmet, so unfortunately we all have to do random maps with enemy levels 73 or higher. Unless someone from GGG writes it out for us, it'll be a while until the wiki gets any real info for your question.

Let me know if you need anything else though.

Hey Hey triniparty!

Dunno if you remember me, but I played your build last league and of course again this league. I still can't believe how easy it is to get into end-game content without having to spend tons on "meta" items...
Of course I remember! Glad to have you back :).

Question 1) How much less damage does this build do without EE? My playstyle is a bit more defensive, so the zombies sometimes get to the monsters before I do, and thus EE is then having the opposite effect. I played without it in the previous league, but didn't get right up to t15's because of work etc. Is it worth speccing into it even if I don't proc it sometimes?
Elemental Equilibrium does lots of damage, but you'll only notice it in long battles, like bosses. But yes, it's 100% worth it. The guide has a small section for EE under the passive tree part. "A neat thing about EE is that it is only applied to enemies by us, not our minions. So, even though our minions are hitting the enemies over and over with cold damage, they aren't giving the enemies extra cold resists." So as long as anything you cast or attack with (including with CwDt) has no cold damage, you'll never see the negative effects of EE :) (EE and Fortify have the same duration, so it's easy to see when you don't have either applied).

I personally use Charged Dash all the time for Enfeeble, Fortify, and Holy Relic...but I only think offensively (EE) in boss battles.

"
Question 2) I see this time round you chose Bone Sculptor instead of Puppet Master for the ascendancy. Is the skeleton boosts remarkably better than the Puppet Master boosts?
Bone Sculptor is insanely good. Your skeletons ALWAYS hit (never miss), you cast three skeletons at a time, they have 100% faster movement speed, you get extra skeletons (including for the Vaal skill) and extra damage. My choice was actually between Commander of Darkness and Puppet Master. Puppet Master does more damage and movement speed, but Commander of Darkness gives our allies resists and a bit of damage. I chose this because Zombies are my primary skill and this skill caps our zombie resists at 75%.

"
-- I apologize for my lack of calculating skills. I hate trying to calculate damages etc and if there's someone else that already did, well.... rather ask them ;)
Oh and the comment : I am on t3's atm and my zombies are doing very well despite not having fortify linked to them yet! Not too sure how they will do in higher maps without that though! :D
That's great! Hang in there. Soon 5 links will drop enough that you'll start ignoring them ;)

"
Once again thank you so much for an absolutely fabulous build :)
Thanks for the kind words! It's nice to have you back :).

Hey Webl3y! Awe, only 4 weeks old...how cute ;). I'm glad you found a build you like. It can be hard to find something you like when you're just looking through words and busy forums.

As a new player (just under 4 weeks) I was searching for a build to play in the Betrayal league and found your guide. I wanted to try a summoner and I'm glad I did.

Boy is it fun!!!

The guide is the best laid out I've seen, very newbie friendly and quite apart from the excellent explanation the linking guide for gems with included colours is inspirational.

My very sincere thanks the build clears trash and bosses very effectively and has no reliance on unique items or 6L setups to work really well.

Superb stuff, highly recommended for anyone to have fun.
Thanks for taking the time to complement. Please ask anything you like. There are a lot of helpful people following this guide. Any rookie questions are more than welcome. POE gets really hard and intense the deeper you go. This expansion brought a lot of change. We're all learning together.

Thanks again!

Hey Xicsess,

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

This is the first build I've reached maps with and probably the only one I hit level 50 with (Currently lvl 71). I like it for a lot of reasons, the first is simplicity, telling me where gems are, very newbie friendly.
Thank you! I'm glad you're getting farther and deeper.

A couple of things that may have helped or would help:
1. You get pretty high int with this build, getting some of the socket combos with stats you can use is difficult (low dex/str).
The guide touches on this a bit: "Don't forget about attributes. You'll pass some nodes on the tree that give +30 to Strength or Dexterity. If you don't have items to cover what you're short in, feel free to select some of these as you pass them. You'll get respec points that will let you remove them later once you have better gear."

I'm currently level 40-something and am doing this with both the +30 Str. and Dex. nodes. Later on, it'll be easy enough to find an amulet that has enough Dex to give you at what you need (so you can respec out of the +30 nodes then).

I haven't unlocked much crafting yet, but I'm getting the impression that it'll be easy to craft higher Dex on items than we were able to in the past as well.

If you're short on Dex now, and need it for Charged Dash, just go to the Gem seller of your Act. They'll likely have some amulets that can help you out for cheap.

"
2. Similar - I'm not sure if I'm supposed to upgrade all the gems? The level list you had made me think it was the level at which I could acquire them. The only one specifically mentioned is charged dash.
Yes upgrade all the gems as high as they go except for Charged Dash. You can keep it at level 1. There's no reason to put it to level 6. Just don't let it's Dex requirement get past that of Hatred (or highest Dex gem).

"
3. Charged Dash - I just now can equip this since i have a dex ring on. But I won't be able to if I upgrade it. It may be worth mentioning that flame dash is useful for a movement skill until you can get the stats for charged dash?
4.Similarly, it may be helpful to help explain a stripped down version of this for leveling? I figured out that I could bring a lot of the fun functions online earlier and get a feel for the build by stripping down a lot of the support gems. You can do a 3B-4B zombie chest (Zombie +2-3 supports), which is pretty easy to find. 2-3B Skelly (skelly + 1-2 supports), 1G/1B - Temporal chain, 1G-2B or 3B for Charged dash or flame dash, cast hit. You can do a solo 1G for hatred or a simple GRB to get a lot of the functionality. The casts on (edit) damaged are nice, but if you just roll with whatever you get in the last slot you can kinda throw in whatever's missing and play with other spells.
Great suggestions! The problem isn't anything to do with your suggestions at all, but a limit to the forum restrictions! I'm at the absolute cap for maximum characters in my guide. I was considering adding a huge section for new folks, but everything else I decided to keep in the guide ended up being more valuable to everyone, not just the new folks. There is quite a lot I'd like to include in the guide that I haven't. As I restructure the guide every expansion, I have to reconsider what to cut and keep in. So since I decided to keep as much in the guide that was relevant to everyone...I decided to word each section for new people to understand. I chose that path with the hope that the guide would help new people read the game (gems, equipment, etc.) and make some of the choices for themselves (since we're always here to help if anyone wants it). I have found that people learn a ton when have to do some choosing for themselves.

I'd love to include what you suggested. I just don't have the space. I mentioned previously that, for 3.6, I'll likely cut out the "2 handed" sections, keep the build 1 handed, and if anyone wants help with a staff version of the build, we'd be able to do that in the Replies. I think that'd give me space to expand the Tips for Newbies section quite a lot.

Good suggestions.

"
Maybe this is just super beginner but I picked the build because it was much less intimidating and had a lot of beginner help pieces listed but there was still a pretty big learning curve.
I'm sorry the curve was still pretty big. I appreciate you saying so. As mentioned above I'll be expanding the Newbie section for 3.6. to try and mitigate that curve even more.

"
Edit - also thank you for writing this build it's been a lot of fun to play.
No problem :). And please ask anything you like. I try and respond about once a day to my guides, but there are many helpful people that are following this guide that are better at my own builds than I am. :)

Right now, I have my Summon Skeletons in a +1 minion helmet with Minion Damage, Minion Speed and... Spell Totem.

It's less damage per second, but I find it easier to just cast a totem and run around than to summon the skeletons myself.

Awesome! Good suggestion! Saves tons of time. Less casting means more living.

Quick update, I'm at act 8 and I'm pretty impressed how good is the build without needing good equipment.

Currently my equipment is bad, 0 lab, 4L... I do not even 75% in resistances but it does not matter.

I know how you can double that limit!

Use the second post in the thread - the one that starts "I'll update the guide..." - as the second chapter of your post.

That's what Sovyn does in the Lazy Pally guide. (By the way, Sovyn's Lazy Pally is a melee build suitable for new players. He's been updating it since February 2013 - almost 6 years!)

Thanks for the compliment! That's very kind of you. I'm glad it's working for you. (I just got to where you are as well.) Sweet videos too! You're doing great! It's going to be exciting to see where the new crafting can take this build.

That's a really good idea! I appreciate you posting this again. I didn't really get what you meant the first time. The example you gave this time really helped. I HAVE DECISIONS TO MAKE! :) Thanks!

I appreciate your posts and advice.
