Done 31 crafts on an Elder astral plate and have not got +1 to gems at all.
Got lvl 1 maim several times though. Item level is low at 77 could that be the reason? Suppose the next question is what is the better of the 2? +1 support gems i would think but stand corrected. |

" It depends on gear and content that you're attempting, but if you have to choose one or the other, Maim is better than +1 support gems. |
