I don't know about the mechanisms for creating a guild/guild stash because I've never looked into it, but if that's free you can do that too.

You choose not to because it's inconvenient.

Last Epoc isn't even in Beta yet.

Why are you saving all those essences that you'll never use? You can also cut back on the stones and scraps. 4 stacks of stuff you could find in an hour or two doesn't make sense. Keep one stack... if that.

This. Paid tabs are a great QoL, though. Wish they give some coins on holidays or so. Or for each year since registration.
Damn, are we condemned to have these kind of whining posts every league over and over ?....

Apparently so. While OP bitches about Americans, he clearly has the worst case of Entitlement Syndrome I've ever seen. I wonder how people go through their lives behaving this way? I don't go to the grocery, buy a box of cereal, then demand the milk for free so I can have the "full experience". How many people work for GGG? How does OP expect these people to feed their families? "I'm sorry, honey, but an American-hating forum poster believes that my paycheck takes away from his experience, so I'll be working for free from now on." I mean, really?

Edit: Actually, it's more like the grocery offering me a free box of really good cereal, but instead of just enjoying it, I stand at the checkout line and bitch about how they didn't give me the milk, spoons, bowls, etc. Would those things be nice? Sure. Do I HAVE to have them to eat my cereal? Nope.

-----------------------------------------

It is 100% possible to clear all the game content without spending a dime. MTX are either cosmetic or QoL upgrades that are not even remotely necessary. Now, if we were forced to pay real money for high-tier maps or the gear required to progress through endgame content? Alright. Valid complaint.

This? This is just whining for the sake of whining. To me it honestly seems like this guy just wants attention so he can spew his anti-American agenda.

Psst... I'm American. :) I will continue to support GGG as long as GGG keeps delivering excellent content and does not turn to any sort of PTW model. You know, 'cause it's the right thing to do. Supporting the creator of something you enjoy has absolutely nothing to do with one's nationality. It's about his or her values and whether he or she actually gives a shit about other people. Me? I'd like the GGG team to earn a decent living so they continue to being me content. If that makes me a dumb American, well.. so be it.

OP is right - POE is not free to play if you consider the opportunity cost.

I could be working a second job, or making money through a hobby or otherwise.

Just don't be poor.

The term "free to play" is often misleading.

Back in the days, 90s to be precise, gaming for free was about playing a game without having to pay for it and yet, having access to everything. Good examples are mods, you never had to pay money for them, or new maps, weapons or updated databases for your football manager.

You are talking about Freeware. How many of those games or mods were made by professional gaming developers, by companies?
Mods and little freeware games are made by people in their spare time and don't have running costs. Otherwise they chose some kind of shareware model for it or use ads to get some of their money back.

Today, all these things cost money, thanks to Steam and the cash shop community, that is willing to pay, for stuff that is supposed to be free.

Wrong. Mods and freeware still exist. The only difference is, that the F2P model with optional microtransactions is used for commercial products. If POE would have been released in the 90s, it wouldn't be completely free as in freeware. It would be Buy2Play, just like Diablo.

As for gaming in general, you can play a lot for free, the question is just how. Look at SWTOR, you can play it for free, but you will not have access to all content, WOW is another example, so are many more games, including POE.

Okay, let's compare this!

WoW: Play until level 20 which means that you can play for a maybe 5-10 hours and probably don't even interact with other players in that time, since the content below BfA is pretty much dead and running dungeons is not the best way to gain exp anymore.

SWTOR: Without a sub (or certain microtransactions), you are not allowed to wear the best equipment and have a few other restrictions that influence your whole gameplay experience. Can't remember everything. I played this game years ago and got a sub after 1 or 2 days.

POE: You can do whatever you want, as good as every other player, as long as you don't go very deep into the whole crafting/trading/hoarding items for multiple alts stuff.
The game offers everything a casual player needs for free. The only other F2P online game that I know with such fair conditions is / was Ogame before the company behind it got greedy and scared away many players with Pay2Win options.

It is comparable to having access to automated group tools in MMO´s vs. not having to, being able to use the AH and not being able to... It just turns the game into something totally different and this also applies to POE and it´s stash management system.

Bad comparison imo. If you put an AH or a LFG tool in a MMO, every player will use it, even if they don't like it. Hiding these things behind a paywall would create a two-class society. Pure F2P players would only play with each other, trade with each other and be much more exposed to the bad side of F2P gaming: Cheating, insults, scams, etc.
It would basically be an internment camp for the pure F2P crowd.

Not being able to manage your items as good as others comes not even close to that.

Americans have a concept that nothing is free. The word "free" associates it with "money".

They are not wrong. Nothing on this planet comes out ot thin air. Real Life is not Star Trek. "Free healthcare" means that someone else pays for it. Even if you live in the woods and hunt wild animals, grow your own food and drink from a river, you are taking something from nature.

We are talking about a commercial product here, with more or less expensive infrastructure, maintenance cost, paid employees etc.
There is always some model to get this money back and make a profit out of it. If it is F2P, you have always ads or microtransactions.

Miská, I'll summarize it as if you were 12 years old. I am not criticizing POE for "buy to continue", I am criticizing because it is lying by saying it is an "F2P". I understand that you do not understand it.

No, YOU don't understand the difference between a freeware game that someone made in his spare time and a commercial product that has the F2P model with microtransactions instead of B2P and / or a monthly fee.

Why do you think the Fortnite and Lol business model works? Surely you have no idea.

Because the target audience is 12 years old and more than happy to spend a shitload of their parents money for cosmetics in a video game?
I downloaded the game for free and it costs me no money to play. This game is free to play.
