how are you able to manage not to die with this setup? I feel like without steelskin or anything. youre more prone to taking alot of damage

Interesting trick with hypotermia... But keep in mind: skitterbots moves with you around 10 pts area, not offscreen, sooo... you need stay close to boses and mobs for using hypothermia bons damage(when enemies chilled).
Also you did mistake in POB calculation. You forgot make a mark in Configuration paragraph "is the enemy a Boss?"
Exposure effect, from wave of conviction, works only when you got hit and cwdt proc, not permanet
Your real Shaper damage only ~166k.(for Shaper or Guardian, without exposure effect)
Also POB didn't include total % penetration. Need to indicate numerical value of penetration in " Configuration" -> For effective dps-> enemy lightning/fire/cold resistance. Especially if you have lightning penetration or ele penetration mods on your gear.
Also no reasons to use controlled destruction in main skill link, cuz skitterbots apply shock and chill for nearby enemies.

I'm also thinking about using Elemental Focus, since Skitterbots were introduced. But then you would have to find another way to ignite bosses, and couldn't freeze and shatter mobs anymore, which is a strong defensive mechanic.
But Elemental Focus would give you quite a bit more damage.
